It has been hot 90+ the past few days and my heat pump water heater is not keeping the house cool enough anymore. I painted the roof white and ordered a mini split heat pump A/C unit from eBay that should be here today. The A/C unit will draw about 665w when cooling and my solar setup would not support that additional load so last night I installed 750w worth of new panels on the roof. They were doing great this morning before I left for work, I really wanted to stick around till noon and see what they would do but I had to go. New Panels.

If you get an inverter split it can draw a lot less than name plate rated power.

Could you find a link to the a/c unit?

    Truer words...

We installed a new Panasonic 1.5 Horsepower (~12,000 BTU) Split Inverter Compressor Air-Conditioner* (Model Number CS-PS12TKH) about a month ago, here at the farm. We also run two refrigerator / freezers. One ref combo is a Samsung Digital Inverter, while the other uses the "old style" compressor. During a power cut, a single Honda EU20i Inverter Generator, will power both inverter appliances AND all lights, fans, a water pump, my network, and my desktop computer, as well as all associated hardware that I need to run - simultaneously. The ONLY thing it strains to power up, is the "old style" compressor refrigerator / freezer. It's a horizontal refrigerator / freezer anyway. So, we just unplug it and keep the doors closed during power cuts. I'd say that is pretty danged good, for a single, small generator - that is also very quiet to run. I always run it on eco-mode.

    * Total installation price, solely for comparison: $465 USD, all in. $415 USD to buy the air-con and $50 USD for delivery and installation, at the farm.

That is a great price and I would have gladly paid $50 to have someone install this thing. I got the outside unit bolted to the roof last night. If it does not rain I will hammer drill a couple holes through the roof tonight and bring the lines to the inside unit. I still need tor run conduit and pull wire to it. I am going to hook it up to a relay that will cut the power when my batteries fall below a certain level. Actually, I bough a small breaker box and I am going to make that whole box switch off when the batteries fall below a certain level, I will connect things to it that I consider luxury items.

I am not sure I understand what you are asking exactly but this is my current setup, I have more solar panels in the barn that I still need to install:
2000w Solar Panels Installed (12v panels wired in pairs to make 24v)
2 Schneider Electric Conext XW MPPT 60 Amp Solar Charge Controllers (one with 1400w, one with 700w)
Schneider Electric Conext SW 4024 3,400 Watts, 24VDC Inverter 120/240 VAC
Schneider Electric Conext XW+/SW System Control Panel (SCP)
    LiFePO4 Prismatic Battery 24V, 300Ah (24v=dead/27.4=full charge)

I got everything hooked up to the unit on the roof last night, I will mount the unit inside the house tonight and with any luck get to try it out. This is a photo of the work in progress. AC Install.

I got it working last night but I could only run it for an hour or so because it was already dark. It did not pull much power, I am impressed. We ran it this morning for a couple hours and it brought the relative humidity down 10% and the temp down 2 degrees. I still need to babysit it because i don't have it setup to shut down when the power gets low, I might work on that tonight.

Seem to be the case, occasionally it draws a lot of power for a short period of time, I need to investigate.

Huge Power draw is from the compressor charging the accumulator up , then as it needs coolant to move the compressor runs at a slower rate . Or that's how my 3 Mini splits work
    Im on R410a
