ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

The Mr ordered a new Alienware system for his Xmas present, came in yesterday. Windows 10 has been a nightmare straight out of the box. The popups are unbelievable, and even though I went into Edge and turned them off they still keep pouring in. He tried to go online to look up how to deal with it, and it won't let him load any page that references windows 10 malware adware popups, etc. It also prevents him from going to pages to download free malware and adware removal software, can't even get Spybot. The pages just don't load. Last night he shut everything down, went to bed, and got up this morning to over a dozen popups on the screen.

FWIR, W10 is either superb or time to do a sys restore. If I was in your situation; I'd call Alienware's help line.

Guys, have any of you heard of Black Viper? I've been using the website since I started using XP in the early aughts. This website is truly a lifesaver when it comes to securing your computer from unwanted intrusions and updates!

I will warn you upfront. Use this website at your own risk!!!

I personally use it right after a fresh install, it's the very first place I go on the Internet. I would highly advise AGAINST changing any of these settings once you have been using your system for some time. I don't know what it will do. I just know that over the past ten years, I have had very few stability issues, and I've never been hacked.

The hacking part, well I think there might be a bit more to my security than just using Black Viper to protect my computer. There's a lot of other things I do to keep my files secure and not at risk of loss due to system corruption. My personal methods may not be for anyone but me. But hell, there's a ton of other ways to secure your PC and protect your privacy!

Love this subject, Sec_Monkey! Lots of good stuff for people in here!

    Windows should NEVER be trusted!

    Whats Windows ? :ROFLMAO:

microsoft has sold it's code for years to allow fortune 500 companies to get around their codes, Windows has had trap doors and keyboard shortcuts, a pissed off exemployee sabotaged windows 95 by inserting a virus onto the installation CD. I converted to Linux right after Windows ME.

Windows is not needed to surf the net, get email or watch youtube I use FireFox and everything works fine.

How well versed are you in computers, Sec_Monkey? Im not a coder or anything, but if you are still finding yourself frustrated with the updates, I would suggest possibly downgrading to an older version. Unfortunately with most modern computers the oldest version you can downgrade to is probably going to be 7, due to RAM usage requirements, if I recall. I have an extremely hacked version of XP I could make available, but it will only ever be able to use about 2 gigs of RAM. Its a rock solid version of XP that works like linux, without the need for coding experience.

Linux is configured for and has software for many computers but some versions work better for certain brands of computers and their hardware. I like live versions they boot and you can test them before installing to make sure they operate your network connection, sound, video. keyboard and mouse / touchpad this is especially important with notebooks / laptops.

Synaptic package manager is a listing of all the software installed and repositories where optional software can be found and installed automatically via the internet.

Versions I have liked are Linux Mint, MXLinux, LinuxLite, and a few recent Puppy Linux versions it has to be recent or else you may be vulnerable to some viruses as some older versions are not updated or patched for meltdown & spectre viruses and some others .

A good resource for many different versions of linux is DistroWatch.com. all you need is a CD/DVD burning software that burns .ISO or image files if it is a live version it will boot and run in memory without the need to install or does it change anything on your hard drive When you shut it down it evaporates like mist taker out the CD/DVD and reboot windows will be right back like a bad penny.

Lol. The only reason I would recommend this version is because I built it myself 10 years ago. I trust it. I have a little netbook running it without problems since 2008. Still as smooth as the day I installed it.

Those live distros of linux are especially nice because nothing is saved on the host system. But I could never really get into them because of my need for softwares other than web browsing and media viewing. And after building that hacked up xp install disk I really no longer have any interest in coding. Its just not my thing. But now I can hack the crap out of Windows to make it do what I want!

Right now on my office desktop I run Windows 8, with every possible automatic service turned off, using aftermarket security and external drives for all my storage. I also got rid of that crappy START screen and reverted my interface to a 7 style start menu and taskbar. Its never updated and is acceptable for an OS.
