Ok ,I'm looking for anything that will work for constipation. Here's the deal , my daughter has bad problems with constipation , regularity is not normal for her. She's tried numerous over the counter stuff , doctor prescribed stuff . The few things that have worked , was just temporary. Some will work one time , and not the next . She's tried castor oil , and those pre op flushes as well. So any recommendations or recipes would be appreciated.

FWIW, I am not usually troubled by too tight, but refried beans loosen things up enough that I MUST control the intake. I've become convinced that internal flora must be fed what they like, and it may take a while to figure out their fave food.

most or all kinds of beans help, so does yogurt, fresh fruit plus vegetables, specifically prunes, prune juice might also help

various fruit juices or smoothies can help

fiber rich fruit plus vegetables or other fiber rich foods should help quite a bit

make sure she drinks lots n lots of purified water too, filtered from the tap or bottled or from other safe sources

sure hope this helps [winkthumb] [winkthumb]

A cup of prune juice or a few prunes eaten daily do wonders. Downing a quart of prune juice on the other hand leads to a full flush out about 2 hours later............ Blackberry and Persimmon juice are also very good at loosening things up but like with prunes moderation in the diet it suggested :)

Prune juice works. But she should try Activia yogurt. Activia Probiotic Yogurt Benefits Two cups a day plus take some acidophilus. These are great and taste good: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M0IX2A/?tag=survivalmonke-20 getting the gut health correct is hard. Make sure she pushes the water because that helps also.

If you read the reviews on the acidophilus I linked, many gave the product a thumbs up on helping with the issue. I know a man that takes these daily to keep his system healthy

I drink green tea. A glass of (about) 20 oz over the morning time keeps things running fine. Green tea is an acquired taste and can interfere with some meds - best to check with a professional if taking long term scripted meds.

I suffered the same issues thru early adulthood. Lots of water + green tea seems to have solved that - at least for me. Hope your DD gets to feeling better...

First Epsom Salt Uses, Side Effects & Warnings - Drugs.com

Water alone is a the primary cure for many problems most Americans do not drink enough water this causes all kinds of problems that get diagnosed as a disease and treated by symptoms when simple daily intake of clean fresh water about 8 glasses a day.

Epsom salts, easy to use tasteless controllable by the user I would start with an pinch in a cup of water before every or with every meal it can be a secondary drink if it is working to well cut back or increase as needed and it's cheap and effective. Magnesium can be a problem high levels of any mineral can be, try to find a doctor that accepts homeopathic solutions because you need blood test to check if levels are too high. All of your levels need to be inline with medically considered norms, you cannot elevate one and it not effect another and excessive minerals can kill.

Other options are weak coffee or tea, green tea, grape juice, Aloe Vera juice, coconut water or juice in fact mix it up on one day use one then switch out the next your body can create a resistance to one continuously used method. all the other juices mentioned work it depends on if your body allows them to work. Some people can drink abnormal amounts of certain juices without any effects others can get allergic reactions like citrus and become too acidic and break out with mouth ulcers as bodies are all different.

Twice Daily heavy exercise walk at least 1 mile each time, 16 oz of water every two hours, 16 oz of veggies twice a day. Purchase a large can of mixed nuts, eat 8 ounces a day. Eat what ever other foods you like.

When I was a boy, my mom used to give me Milk of Magnesia. I hated that chalking tasting stuff with a passion.

@SB21, how old is she, and what is her diet like? I'm thinking, maybe not enough green leafy vegetables? I know teens don't always want to eat the best foods, which is why I asked.

The only thing that really "backs me up", is if I eat too many bananas. I love 'em, and they are cheap as chips here.

I eat salad every day. Works to counter the binding side effects of blood pressure med without having to resort to another drug.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Dairy products, including cheese in any form are probably best avoided.

Ditto for foods high in iron such as liver and spinach. Also iron supplements and calcium supplements.

High fat foods slow the peristalsis that moves things on through the body.

Massage pillows or an electric neck massager placed against the abdomen just below the navel can really help. The vibrations mimic peristalsis. Just set them on "high" and give them a half-hour or so.

Thanks for the replies. Some of these she's tried , prunes , teas , and few others. I Will look into the Epsom salt thing. Shes 30 yrs old. She's had this problem for years. I think once she does get cleaned out , she thinks everything is fine, and doesn't stress about the preventive measures , like the Activia. And I don't have to worry about eating liver,,, maybe spinach once in a while , but not enough to cause this problem. She's on the run a good bit , school , work , etc , so I'm sure she's not on the best of diets. I'll have her look into that massager idea as well. Thanks for all the help ,,,(y)

Being on the run could be part of her problem.

Have her try the acidophilus. Just put some in her purse or near the coffee pot. If she eats three before bed with a glass of water, that would help "soften things.

I definitely will get this for her. She gets to the point were she doesn't worry about it till she starts cramping , and that's the 1st thing I ask her , is about her movements, and that usually ends up being the problem. So she's in pain till she can pass enough to ease the pain , but she says it's painful to pass because it's so hard. I've told her she's so backed up , whatever she takes to relieve her , probably can't get thru to soften the initial blockage. That's just the way I figure it , because I stayed at a Holiday inn one time,, :ROFLMAO:
Thanks for all the help,, I'll def make her try some of these ideas , thanks to all,,,

There are other ways to clear the pipes, you don't need to chase it down from the top. Warm salt water enema is but one, and can be self administered.

Got an enema bulb in your FAK?

Beer. Two swallows send me trotting. I used to back up and eliminated most dairy and processed corn, and on the now rare instance of the pipes being plugged I get a cheap beer on the way home. One reason I don't drink/

She doesn't drink either. She ended up in the hospital one time , real bad cramps , at the time she wasn't plugged up.. Just bad stomach pains. They finally told her she had pancreatis,,told her she'd have to stop drinking,,,she told them she didn't drink,,,,they didn't believe her. That's your doctor profession nowadays,,,they'll tell you what they think the problem is , not look for the real problem , and send you home no matter what . And get paid anyway. Like the weatherman,,

Like the two times at the ER they said I did not have cardio vascular disease and sent me home.
I persisted and had a MI and open heart surgery.
    So much for contract Docs.

Or the time as a boot they told me to stop smoking and my sore throat would go away, never smoked so I got pneumonia instead.

My friends little girl gets plugged up pretty bad when she eats too much cheese, but she loves cheese.
That seems to be common with little kids, they can't handle certain foods as well as the big kids.
