    Hello everyone.
I've been lurking on and off here for quite a while. I'm currently serving active duty in the USCG and before the military I was into prepping and preparedness quite a bit. I've been very busy with schooling and training but getting ready to head to my next permanent duty station and will be settling there for the next 3-4 years and am planning to get back into emergency/disaster preparedness, gardening, self-sustainability etc. even as some aspects of it apply to the nature of my work. I also may be living in a pretty remote location in the near future where this mindset will be a necessary part of my lifestyle. I also hope to contribute in whatever small ways I might be able to. Thanks to everyone and all the hard work that have obviously been put into these boards.

Welcome to our Monkey Tree... Are you Air or Blue Water.... We love the AirBoys here in Bush Alaska, cause they come get us when we screw up and need rescue... Not so much the Blue Water Boys cause they just harass the Fishermen...

I’m actually hoping to get stationed in Alaska! I was on 47 MLBs doing LE and SAR in Atlantic City NJ before going to school, didn’t do much LE even though I got LE/weapons qualified but plenty of SAR and tows. I’m in NC now attending “Tweet” school (Avionics Electrical Technician) so if I do get AK I’ll be arriving as a flyboy.

I hope you get stationed there. I have watched the Alaska Coast Guard TV show. With the area they cover & the elements, preparedness and skills are needed. Glad you decided to stop lurking and sign up. Welcome to the monkey.

If you get a Southeast Posting let us know... Sitka is our USCG Ait Station...

There's an equal possibility that I go to Sitka. I have a slight preference toward fixed wing rather than rotary and all the C-130s are in Kodiak, although I've heard so many good things about Sitka that I would not be opposed at all. So we'll see what happens with our class picks in a week. We compete against each other for locations and fortunately for me it sounds like only myself and one other student actually wants to go to Alaska. I grew up in the middle of Appalachia up north, everything about Alaska appeals to me. I'm so sick of living in cities since enlisting.

Thank you all so much for the thanks and the warm welcome. It's good folks like you who remain supportive of those who serve that make this country worth putting our lives on the line for (though most of us in the CG haven’t got a lot to worry about compared to many in the other branches) and we appreciate you so much. I'm also so happy to see that this is actually a thriving, lively forum, so many forums like this one are dead nowadays. It's sad. They've always been such an incredible source of information for me.
