Dental Floss

When I travel, I take dental floss along with my toothbrush and tooth paste. And at home, we floss daily.

A roll of dental floss is also a pretty good item for an on-person survival kit. Or in your EDC bag. It is small and light, has a good amount of cordage, and it fairly strong. You may even be able to split a piece of floss into smaller fibers. I have done that in the past for emergency repairs.

I shuck the case to make a smaller carry. Don't need the cutter as I always have a knife (or scissors on a plane).

Cordage is a most useful thing to have. Many years ago, at a friend's child's birthday party, they wanted to string up a pinata. But had no string. My little hank of cordage that lived in my pocket saved the day. Some time back, wifee needed cordage for something. I don't remember what it was, but we were out. Oh, I remember. Sandal repair. So I pulled out a hank of bank line and we got her sandals sorted. She was surprised, but only a little, that I had cordage on me. For the sandals, doubled up bank line was not only stronger, but more comfortable than floss.

But if she ever had something stuck in her teeth, I would have been good to go too.

I have several in my BoB, but never thought to just put some in my pocket. That is brilliant!

Probably could stitch a wound with it!

Just keep in mind that if you take it out of the case, it is not as sanitary. Both for mouth and for wounds.

Could put it into a small Ziploc bag... :) Then into your pocket. :D

I sometimes wrap spider wire around an old card for wallet carry. Never measured what what one tight wrap around was. But same idea. Got something.

True. But for my purpose of just having something, I don’t care that much. I will have one in its container in my bag anyway.

most dental floss is waxes thread, you can make your own. I just like Glide as it goes between my teeth better.

I like those flossy things on sticks because I always, and I do mean always, break the little boxes that floss comes inside and I end up swearing and throwing crap when I can't find the cutter because it popped out and then the floss rolls onto the floor and I miss the three second rule count and then stub my toe and then resign myself to smoking a cigar and then gurgling with peroxide before calling it a day. So, the little sticks with floss in them already work for me.

I'm quite certain you could, though I would tend to want to utilize the unwaxed floss for that purpose (introduce less crap into the wound, right?).

Unwaxed dental floss is also excellent for ANY sort of clothes sewing. Years ago, when I joined the Navy, and was issued my pea coat, we were told that if we stitched the metal buttons with unwaxed dental floss, we would more than likely never lose one. That stuff is tough! If you're worried about the white "thread" showing, just hit what shows with a Sharpie marker, and it will blend right in.
