Not mine, but owned by a former classmate. No, I can't get you a good deal as Randy probably wouldn't remember me after 40 or so years. I just caught it on FB and thought someone here might be interested. Looks pretty well set up and ready to go on a long off grid adventure. More pix and information at the link.

Cool Idea, I have seen many different types of "expedition" rigs running around in the Desert S.W. and they are all pretty cool! Thats said, also VERY freekin expensive!
I like my L.M.T.V. much better, it's a true heavy duty Military truck with a well proven Cat diesel and the best part, it's easy to get parts for and even easier to work on! Truck and trailer with the tops and bows and 6 brand new tires and 4 brand new heavy duty batteries was under 10K Added a second fuel tank and some tool carriers, and it's a super long distance rig! Also gets pretty good fuel mileage surprisingly, averaging around 12 Miles per gallon, and has a useful load of 8000 pounds, but can easily take way more then that for short trips! I am swapping the cab on mine, installing a Unimog U1300 high roof cab, gives more head and foot room and removes the front over hang while giving a stronger cab with more roof strength! Not needed for most folks, but I have different requirements!

When I was coming up, 8 ply tires were considered heavy duty. But, 16 ply?!

Randy mentioned on FB he had $130K in parts - I'd go with @Ura-Ki 's solution. I bet you could go a long ways with an extra $10 to make it habitable.

Texas is the biggest depot, you will find more there, but lots of States are cleaning out the national guard stocks, tbose are the ones you wanna look carefully at. They generally have fewer miles, but some get damaged!

Boyce equipment out of Provo Utah is THE place for parts and getting the good deals on tires, plus other super cool stuff you didn't know you needed! I did the front suspension conversion from the light MRAP which gives more suspension travel and rides a little nicer!

yep some could be in Guam, or Hawaii, or Alaska, or other tough to get to locations ..

havin em shipped can be prohibitively expensive

like @Ura-Ki said some get damaged or possibly blown up ;) ;)

the odometers of some vehicles may have rolled over a bunch of times as well

tires sure can get real spensive depending on the vehicle ..

    YUP!
Tires are currently selling for $380 each for the GoodYears, and $365 For the good Firestones, and shipping isn't too bad ( usually)
Rims complete are $120 give or take + Shipping.
Plan to replace the Air Compressor right away, it's the one week link in these, they can be found many places including CAT dealers, but they run about $800 or more. Tue-Flow makes an "Upgrade" twin cylinder compressor that is about the same cost, but more then twice as fast which is really nice to have. Don't mess with your Central inflation system, folks try to tune them and end up blowing the compressors or wearing out the tires much faster by over inflating them, BAD idea! Plan to replace all belts and hoses especially the Turbo boost tubes, use the High temp "Blue" synthetics instead of trying to get replacements for the factory tubes, Freightliner is the best place to go. All engine filters can be found at NAPA under the universal swap books, so you can run CAT, Baldwin, Fleetguard, or WIX filters, and carry a few spairs for the fuel filter!
The engines on these are industrial CAT road engines most pre 1998 are the older 3116 series and the post 1998 engines are the better 3126E series electronic engines, far better power and fuel millage and still easy to upgrade if desired! the engine tag on top of the valve cover will tell you which engine you have, it's worth it to upgrade to the 3126 engine! Factory specs say these make 230 HP, most I have seen and heard about are making closer to 250 HP! They are super easy to upgrade if desired, but you need to have a trusted diesel shop do it, the turbo is from Holset and the PN is X3521 for a Cummins C8.3. The injectors are the really important upgrade, those need to be specified as the 80 HP upgrade and you need to specify the "California" emissions nozzles. the super savvy diesel guys know these make even more power and use less fuel to do it! finally the pump will need tuned, and the truck will get Dynoed ( you wanna be there to see this) and bring a video recording device, these CATs sound awesome on the dyno!
These upgrades will usually make about 325HP with no change to the life of the engines, and can make a lot more, but you have to get into the engine to go there, I see no reason unless you get one of the 6X6 trucks!

    @Bandit99 looks like a gud deal :)

please keep in mind tho that the odometer is most likely off

the Central Tire Inflation System is Inoperable

the rest of it looks reasonably gud (y) but please be :cautious:

@Bandit99 Shop the GSA Auctions ( Gov. Planet) and State equipment sales, you can always find the 'Quick Hitch" set up and plows for sale, usually pretty cheap too! You will need to add a PTO driven hydro system and hand controls for the cab, used in good shape shouldn't cost more then $3500 for the whole shootin match! While you are installing the hydros, do the bed lift conversion and have a tilt bed too! The mileage may or may not be true, depending on Which Military service had it and where in the motor pool it was kept, Mine had 4000 miles on it, and there were some with less then 1000 true. Some of the National Guard units never move other then oil changes and maintenance, then back to storage they go! Same with the rest of the rigs, though the bigger Semi and Dump trucks do get used a lot, and those you really need to be careful when shopping them!

That amounts to a reserve in the auction. If I were sure I could close the deal for that price, I'd already be in the air.
