    Fred: "I'm against gun control...generally."

TRANSLATION: I have no issue with 'reasonable gun control measures'.

Actually it is at about the 1:45 mark on youtube.

After listening to Fred, I think I am even more convinced he is the guy I will be voting for.

Pro-life, thinks Rowe vs. Wade should be overturned.
Pro-2nd Amendment (as for the "generally" comment does anyone here think that everyone should have a gun? Should a felon convicted of a violent crime be able to walk out of jail, go straight to a gun shop and buy a firearm? In my opinion no. To say anything otherwise would be a campaign killer anyways.)
    Border security is paramount

So far I like what I hear. The other big thing is that he is electable. Very much so. Sen. Thompson has a presence, charisma, and he has an excellent chance of defeating Obama/Hillary. When it comes down to it, I do not see him agreeing to the passage of more gun control laws or big tax raises, while either of the democratic front runners are salivating at the thought of forcing us to register our fireamrs then turn them in, and raise taxes in the process. I don't fault anyone for voting for Ron Paul as the rep. nominee, as I don't agree with some of the things on his agenda he is not my candidate. In the end should he run as an independent I think that voting for him would just be giving votes to Hillary/Obama. You do have to vote your conscience though, and be ready to live with the consequences.

That's normally my assumption, but I'm thinking Ron Paul is not.

Electable. Wow. The standard by which we have lost our democracy and our nation. Wait until the 20 million new people become citizens. We will be voting for Caesar Chavez like people because they will be the new standard of "electable".

Electable = watered down middle of the road candidate. F that. Give me Hillary so we know where we are going and when to get out.

Fred just served a term and a portion. He was elected to Al Gore's vacant spot, won the next election, then decided he had enough of Gov. work. I guess he didn't after all. I think the problem is the Trent Lott/Ted Kennedy/Harry Reid's that are up there forever. Most politicians that have served in their positions for 15-20+ years has lost touch with the constituents they represent.

Ron Paul has the ear of many people on boards such as this one, however, in the end the general masses won't give someone like this a second look.

I'm so sick of the race already and it really hasn't gotten going yet, still way too much time left, I'm really just content to sit here in the woods and say the hell with everyone else but I know that is not realistic sad to say

I don't see voting for Fred Thompson as taking the path of voting for an unworthy candidate. I think that he is electable is an important part of the equation. If I could get Dick Army back into politics, or change the rules to allow G. Gordon Liddy to run for president I would. However, they are not electable candidates.

Thompson is one of the few that actually thinks the current immigration bill SUCKS. He believes in a strong border to start with.

Screw that, the day that I vote for a pro-death, anti-2nd Amendment liberal is the day that a gun is held to my head inside a ballot box.

I won't be voting for Hillary. If all I got is Gulliani or Romney or McCain, I'm just gonna go on vacation in Nov. 2008.

Maybe Thompson would be OK. John Kerry was pretty damn close in beating Bush in the last election. Ohio made the difference. Kerry was not "electable" according to all the standards, but Bush was?

Bush was considered "electable" in 2000 and he would bring Texas.

Bush is not a Republican. He is a compassionate conservative.....meaning a progressive middle of the roader who believes in strong military, strong government with lots of spending, lots of handouts, lots of immigration, lots of spending, lots of spending, lots of spending, lots of spending, and no accountability because he is protecting this nation and the constitution be damned because he said so. **** your liberties. **** you. He doesn't care because he is the "Most Powerful Man in the World" as the President. He has screwed our nation, spent like a Kennedy, hasn't leased out the Lincoln Bedroom for campaign contributions (yet), but I think he has done far worse damage to this nation than getting a few shady donations. You know it is bad when the rate of spending and government growth was greater under a Compassionate Conservative than it was under Bill "Cigar in the Box" Clinton! Only one Veto and with a republican congress. Leadership and opportunity squandered.

I can't wait for the reign of Robespierre Bush to end. Or will he become our Robespierre?

I disagree in that Bush is a republican, but not a conservative. Not even close. I also think that with a republican majority they did squander a lot of opportunities the likes of which we may not see again for a long, long time. If ever. If any progress was made in the last 7 years it will show in future supreme court decisions with the appointees that were made. Specifically if the appeal to the D.C. gun-ban, and Rowe v. Wade is heard.

I am not saying that Thompson is the best thing since sliced bread, but so far I like what I am hearing. At this point I am looking for more decisive gridlock than anything, if all they do is stab each other in the back, fight, argue, and fail to pass anything, then I look at that as a good thing. We already have enough laws on the books. Enforce what you have instead of grinding out more laws that won't be enforced.

And let's not forget about ...Federal Election Commission records show that Thompson’s political action committee transfered $178,000 to his son’s political consulting firm

He's just more of the same crap we have already. If he wins the presidency... NOTHING will change.

Someone asked him to run....people came to him like the Council on Foreign Relations or similar.

The Republican party does not exist in the form we call "Grand Old Party". The new platform is similar to a JFK Democrat from the 1960s.

This party has been sliding left for so long that it doesn't know what Republicanism is as defined by Jefferson.

Yep....Fred is all for "reasonableness" when it comes to gun control....and that translates to "boil the frog nice and slow so he doesn't get hopping mad".

Take it from a Tennessean, Fred is a put-on. Ron Paul has an A+ anti-gun control record in the US Congress.

On September 12, 1996, the Senate passed the Lautenberg gun ban as an amendment to the Treasury-Postal appropriations bill (H.R. 3756). The Lautenberg Domestic Confiscation Gun Ban disarms gun owners for small (misdemeanor) offenses in the home — “offenses” as slight as spanking a child or grabbing a spouse. This lifetime ban, in certain cases, can even be imposed without a trial by jury. It is also retroactive, so it does not matter if the offense occurred 20 years ago. Thompson voted in favor of the amendment.

On July 21, 1998, pro-gun Senator Bob Smith (R-NH) introduced an “Anti-Brady” amendment that passed by a vote of 69-31. The Smith amendment would prohibit the FBI from using Brady background checks to tax or register gun owners. Further, the amendment requires the “immediate destruction of all [gun buyer] information, in any form whatsoever.” Finally, if the FBI disregards this latter provision, the Smith language will allow private citizens to sue the agency and collect monetary damages, including attorney’s fees. Thompson, in keeping with his tendency to usually vote for expanded federal police power, voted against this limitation of FBI registration of gun owners.

On February 11, 1998, the Senate voted 67-28 to confirm Margaret Morrow to the Federal bench. GOA vigorously opposed this Clinton-appointed judge, as she has not only taken strident anti-gun positions, she has showed herself to be a gun control activist. Fred Thompson voted for confirmation.

The young adult gun ban could severely punish parents who allow their kids to even touch a so-called semi-automatic “assault weapon.” While the amendment allows for certain exemptions, there are some imponderable questions which NO senator could answer, but which a parent would have to answer in order to avoid incarceration. For example: What is a “semiautomatic assault weapon”? The definition, plus exemptions, takes up six pages of fine print in the U.S. Code. Second, a child can handle a banned semi-auto if he is in the “immediate and supervisory presence” of a parent or if he possess a written permission slip from the parent. But what happens when, during a target practice session, the parent walks to the car to retrieve his lunch and the juvenile is no longer in the parents “immediate” presence and does not have a permission slip? A parent can receive jail time for this infraction. The provision passed the Senate on May 13, 1999, with Thompson voting in the majority.

On May 13, 1999, a majority of Senators — including Thompson — defeated a motion to table (or kill) an anti-gun amendment introduced by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Larry Craig (R-WY). This amendment was offered as an alternative to gun control proposals being pushed by Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

and so on, and so on.

Vote for him if you want, it's still a semi-free country.....but all you are going to get is another NWO critter.

    The truth emerges;

WASHINGTON – Former Sen. Fred Thompson, a Republican presidential candidate in waiting, candidly answered a question at a campaign stop in Texas yesterday regarding his membership in the Council on Foreign Relations, ( I knew he had to be a NWO lacky ) sometimes referred to as a "shadow government" organization of elites with a global agenda.

In an exchange caught on YouTube that later deteriorated into a police encounter, an activist asked Thompson about his membership in the group, linking it with plans for a "North American Union."

"I didn't know they were up to that," ( yeah, right ) said Thompson. "Now, don't fuss at me. You asked me a question. Let me answer it. There are several conservatives over the years who have been members of the Council on Foreign Relations. (all of them NWO globalists) I try to learn as much as I can from all viewpoints. I have been a fellow of the American Enterprise Institute, one of the conservative thinks tanks in town, and enjoy having intellectual exercise and discussions whether I agree or not with anyone on any particular issue."
