When you have been reloading rifle pistol and shot gun ammo for about 25 years, buying long guns and their ammo for more than 20 years, buying pistol and pistol ammo for almost 20 years.
Trust me it gets to a point where buying more is just ridiculous.
Unless some one has the incredibly flawed plan of trading guns and ammo after shtf, it hits a certain point where you have enough.
Which I think almost everyone agrees trading guns and ammo after shtf is a really bad idea.

Plus home boy here needs to bug out of L.A. that's his only chance. In his case having an arsenal and a ton of food he can't take with him is a waste.

Best bet is probably to spend that money on mobility assets and various GTFO aids.

IMO starting a GTFO of L.A. fund that can be easily accessible for planned and unplanned exit may be the best idea. That's probably what I would do.

I happen to be in an apartment/duplex near a city. I have been at this preparedness lifestyle for years and shit still hasn't hit the fan. I am glad that I didn't quit my job and relocate to the sticks to be dirt poor. I live my life but am always learning and preparing plus continuing with my decent paying job, I have been able to purchase what is needed.

    Back on topic:
I have been looking at buying some of this silver Mapleflex
I like this concept of being able to break it into smaller pieces. If silver ever became a form of purchasing gods, a whole silver bar maybe too much in value for what you are trying to purchase.

Having LARGE chunks of PM's is for storage of wealth . Rather have 200G in large PM's than 200G in a bank making squat .Bank gets a run & your out of the number in the bank book, So I have a cash supply out of the bank , PM's in small also , lots of beans & BB's .Been at this for 25 years . Silver is a better lower bartering than gold . I also don't live in a city ,Rural ranch / farm ..

    Sloth

. Available in boxes of 50..

Thank you for everyone's except one person's, more than helpful comments. From reading them. I've changed my mindset and as almost everyone posted, I agree I'm much better off having resources/supplies for TEOTWAWKI than precious metals.

Buying gold, before you have enough Beans, Bullets, and Band-Aids is not very wise. However, for wealth preservation, it is a must. Gold has been around as long as modern man, or close, and it will continue, long after you have shot your last round, ate your last bite, and drank your last sip. Personally, I like gold, a lot. It's portable and carries great value - what's not to like! But, one has to survive first... Get enough so that you feel confident that you can survive before you even consider gold. Or, if you are wealthy, then go for it...it truly is the only way to protect one's wealth.

Who says being in the sticks equates to "Dirt Poor"? I would wager there are far more Dirt Poor folks in the urban areas than in rural areas and they are far more dangerous than the rural poor :)

Seeing that it is illegal to be homeless in some cities, and the practice is gaining traction, unless UN agenda 21 is removed, living in the sticks may not last long either .

    Here's one link.
    Mapleflex
    Google "maple flex" for more.
I know NOTHING at all about PM pricing and trading (other than the silver bars I bought for the kids) so use that link as tho' you know what you're doing.

their claim "The legal tender MAPLEFLEX" has me skeptical especially when I can't find it on the mint.ca website
Maybe I'm just being over cautious but it I can't find it with the mints' search .. I get concerned.

I concur. I would think 'mobile' on all my purchases, realizing that I would have to hit the road so it's only viable if I can carry it. Good packs and sleeping bags, tent, good guns, meds, 4x4 pickup truck with extra gas (with buckets of rice, beans, etc. in the back!), etc. and personally, I would go with freeze-dried food due to weight and longevity (in case you got to dump the truck), pricey but given you need to boogie, it would be worth it. Cost wise, doing this is much less expensive than those that will be hunkering down for the duration. And, yes, I would buy gold for use in the future but only after I was completely fitted out. Personally, I don't like the idea of precious metals for barter/trade but for wealth preservation it's a must. The big question remains is 'where to run', a good bugout location, but the key here is to get the hell out of that death trap called L.A., and 'too soon' is better than 'too late' in this case.

Perhaps use the money to relocate now, at least to the outer fringes of the city if you haven't already. If you have to book, you won't be traveling through most of the carnage to reach a less densely populated area, maybe to a state or national park, until you can formulate an escape plan from there.

If a big quake hits and you're having to leave the city, you're better off leaving from the suburbs than you are from areas where debris from large buildings (and the inevitable fires) will be blocking streets.
