Took the motorcycle into "town" for an oil change and a wash.

By "town", I mean the local commune in which we live. The main part of "town" is 5 kilometers from here. Battambang, the nearest city, is 18 kilometers away.

Anyway, I had no idea what the cost of an oil change and wash would cost, even providing our own oil. I had to give the guys a 10 out of 10, for both services, though. The amount of detail and time spent on each task, was nothing less than excellent. Upon removing the dipstick, oil drain plug, spring and strainer, the guy cleaned all with some mineral spirits, it looked like anyway. He hand dried all pieces, taking time to wipe each one down.

The two boys (teenagers) who washed the bike, used an old toothbrush on the cooling fins of the engine head, and in small spots harder to reach. Amazing, the time spent on this.

After both tasks were complete, she paid the bill and we drove off to sort other errands at the market. I later asked the Boss what the damage was for both services. She told me a figure that I had to ask her twice to repeat. 5,000r ($1.25 USD), all in. So, after paying $4.50 for a liter of good quality oil, the total cost was $5.75 USD. Not bad at all, for the labor cost for an oil change, and a bath for the ol' gal. I will be taking my motorcycle there about once per week, from now on.

We just might want to see a shot of this scooter. Heh. I paid over 50USD for a gallon of oil for the triumph. Those days are over, and I never was overly diligent with washing her.

I can't get a photo at the moment. Below is an image my friend had of it, prior to selling it to me. It's either a Honda Shadow 200, or a Honda Phantom 200. It is a Japanese design, built for some years in Thailand. I don't think they have been manufactured in something like 10 years?

I see a Harley from time to time. A Russian guy in Sihanoukville has a 6 door F-350 4x4. Not too long ago, I saw a Rolls Royce in Battambang. Several Hummers are around the country. The roads here are more for off-road type vehicles, more than anything else. Most roads are not in good shape, not even the highways.

I ways did my own oil changes. Wash? A KLR650 NEVER gets "washed", only rained on. Big joke with us dual sport riders. :D
Just knock off the worst mud and dirt, and RIDE!
I bought oil filters in a case of a dozen online, about 75 cents apiece. At the local cycleshop, they cost $9 each!! Highway robbery. I also had three foam air filters, keeping a couple clean, oiled and bagged. I could just swap one in quick while washing the dirty one.

I used to have an Enduro back in the 70s . Loved it. Would ride around till I found a trail on the side of the road. A few years ago I went in a KTM shop. They had a 960 in there ,, not sure I'm up to taking that much power down a trail anymore . But it would be fun. Still think about it tho.

Yeah...the labor was always dirt cheap while good quality parts (if you could get them) were expensive. It was always so easy to get anything done if you had a bit of money but here, stateside, we can't even get a contractor to come out and look at a job because there is so much more work 30 miles away in the city so why come out here.

During the time I lived in the Philippines, I owned Honda XR200's. I rode mine in almost countless provinces throughout the country. Those Honda's were quite popular, and danged reliable.

I even saw a petite Filipina once, in Dumaguete City, riding one. Never figured out how that little thing would get off it, upon stopping. Her feet were no where near the ground. Would loved to have witnessed that part of her ride.

XR400's were available in country, as well, but not nearly as common.

Um, if I recall correctly, I paid somewhere around 100,000 Php, or about $1,850 USD (new from a dealer), at today's exchange rate, for one of the XR's. The other was purchased used. It's been too many years ago, to recall how much was paid for it.
