Hey monkeys! Fixed field knives are one of those must-have categories that has a core group of really dedicated enthusiasts, but then everyone else is standing on the outside wondering how to figure it out without diving too deep.

To help an average prepper figure it out, we asked some of the web's top knife reviewers to pick their favorites for an average bug out and get home bag.

Review: Best survival knife for preppers

Curious what some of the knife nerds on SM carry in their kits and why?

I carry a trapper a two handed machete and my fixed blades change been using a mora no other reason than it's sharp and cheap I love all knives but if it comes down to it I always have a trapper on me.

My favorite SHTF knife that I own...
My Blackjack Model 5 that I carried while in the Army...and on combat deployments
Its my favorite SHTF knife 'cause I carried and used it , when the S actually hit the fan....
5 1/2 inch carbon steel blade , stacked leather handle and a brass hilt...its easy to sharpen and keeps a edge well.
Still gets used as a camp and "heavy" kitchen knife.

A Busse ASH1 of some description (I.....ummmm.... have "several" of them) and normally a Swamp Rat RMD. I have a "number" of folders and will have one of some description with me or in my kit, I am however FAR...FAR FAR FAR more partial to fixed blades. For a more "budget" blades anything in the ESEE 4, 5, 6 size are great as well !!

Officer: "How many knives do you have Andy?"

    Andy: "Yes."

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I've got a Milwaukee duct knife in my GHB because it's in my carry all tools and use it at work. Good and sturdy and the edge can withstand a day of cutting up 3/4" rubber matting or skinning a couple of wild hogs. Useless for batoning because of the double edge, obviously.

Milwaukee 48-22-1920 5-1/2" Double Edged Stainless Steel Duct Knife

If it's BOB time from home my Bagwell Bowie will be on my hip.

A lot of people talk sh!t about the BG knife. It's a solid knife. I don't care much for the blatant branding, but I've beat the hell outta mine and couldn't be happier. $40 bucks...thanks, can I have another?!

    Edit: the brown word....sorry.

Very few know, but that Bear Grilis Knife is the same as the Famous Gerber LMF Fighting Knife that has been issued to troupes for years, all they did was change the Pike to a hammer head and change the handle, and rebrand it as a "Survival Knife"
a very robust and handy knife that can take a serious beating! I was gifted the very first production knife to leave the factory, a honor to be sure, and I have bought two more, one for a back pack/BOB and one for the Wife.

Never have used a gut hook efficiently...always did the two finger split.

hunting (like a good skinning blade) or an actual hook (something you could pull under a layer of material, skin, whatever)?
Check out this folding Buck on Amazon.
