Well okay, I'm not expert by any means just trying to understand what it is your looking for, Picts would be nice!

 

Ok those are fine tuning adjustments where you only tweek the settings.

What is giving you trouble?

 

When switching from natural gas to propane the manuals I found state that a dip switch must be toggled in order for the unit to run. I believe it either controls the solenoid on the fuel regulator or possibly engine parameters for the different fuel sources. I'm thinking it should be switch number 4 in this picture, but I'm not 100% sure.

 

I would have thought a simple adjustment of the fuel regulator would have been needed.
I'm only guessing but somehow this controls fuel flow by restricting an electrical controlled orifice?
Seems like overkill and without simply testing by running on both fuels and flipping the #4 switch to see if you have any effect at all.

 

The fuel regulator has two outlet ports. One for natural gas and the other for propane. Each port is jetted differently for the fuel demand. There is only one solenoid on the regulator, so when running one fuel the other port is capped with a pipe plug. I'm not sure if the regulator is a Y or an offset controlled by the solenoid. As soon as I get a feed line from the propane tank to the regulator I will attempt to start the unit and go from there.

 

So in other words the fuel regulator is only going to put out x amount of ounces of fuel whether it's nat gas or propane.
It's probably a pancake regulator mfg Impco.
Hook it up and lets us know what you find.
On a side note,Is there a group online with these type of generators?

 

I haven't found much online for this unit. I'm hoping to get it running sometime next week. I will verify the voltage and go from there. If it's not feasible to use this unit I will likely sell or trade it for a more user friendly voltage unit. With it running on propane I have the ability to mount a few tanks on the trailer making it a completely mobile platform.

 

I like the ideal of mobile, With this and no support from the mfg it looks like you will just have to play with it,Good Luck keep us posted!

 

This unit should run for 8.5 hours on a 100# propane tank if I am at 100% load or 30kw. It sounds bad, but I won't ever be able to load it that high so it should run for quite a while on just one 100#. I plan on mounting at least two of them on the trailer and having a 500# tank where the generator will be 99% of the time.

From what I can make out you will have to do a couple of things
The dip switch merely advances the timing or retards the timing by a few degrees
Based on the type of fuel
NG being the lower pressure and less of a BTU rating the fuel gas regulator would be opened more.
Propane having a higher BTU rating the fuel gas regulator should be pinched off more.
Use a paint stick marker on the adjustment of the fuel gas regulator BEFORE you make any adjustments.
You should be able to get your settings close with NO LOAD on your test run.

 

I liked the "learn how to read" better. I have been reading a plethora of manuals over the last week and you're comment made me chuckle. The regulator is factory configured to run off either fuel via separate outlets. ( outlet 1, and outlet 2) the only thing I was worried about was if the dip switch would alter the engine parameters or tune up. Hopefully with my determination and the group's knowledge, we just might make some electricity ⚡

 

I guess I'm unsure why you seem upset that I asked a question? You recommended that I read what I posted when it seems you missed one important detail. The manuals I have found are not for my generator, so I was asking for any input that may help. I don't mess with LPG or CNG engines normally so I didn't want to make assumptions.

 

Plum that baby up for propane, Lets see the fuel gas regulator first, Are any of the manuals showing a regulator at the bottle?
Double check your regulator's pressure rating on the inlet .
You may need to step down the pressure before the fuel gets to the regulator on the engine.
Once you have it identified ,Plum it up and lets fire it up,Post a few pictures first of the regulator and the tag.
