I am sure many of you are like myself in that your spouse is not a real prepper but goes along with your ideas as long as they are not too inconvenient. My wife's Lincoln Navigator is acting up again and she is making noises about wanting another vehicle. I would really like to get her something that is EMP proof, etc. but nothing comes to mind that she would be willing to drive. I am thinking something with points or a non-electronic diesel. Any ideas?

Will she drive something that's 1990s at the latest?
Plus you don't want breaker point ignition.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Find a suitable vehicle that she likes and then have it retrofitted to the level of reliability you feel is necessary.

If you are buying used, you do a lot of upgrading before you get anywhere near the cost of new.

Just because Ferrari doesn't make a diesel with a winch on the front doesn't mean you can't make your own...

    I have Questions...

    What level of comfort?
    What level of conveniences?
What level of drivability in the city?
What level of drivability when SHTF?
Is a truck too much vehicle?
Is a Jeep too much vehicle or too utilitarian?
All wheel drive, two wheel drive, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive?
    Automatic or manual transmission?
    Amazing fuel economy or average?
    How much cargo space?

Eh! I forgot.... How many cup holders?

Jeep Cherokee Sport. Always good to have one on hand. Bad gas mileage but they are like a tank in the snow, with high clearance. Easy to fix but usually has an oil leak so do not park in the garage w/o a mat underneath. The older ones will work after EMP if you have the extra parts stored. Major issue with the Cherokee is the lack of full spare tire. Those you either strap to the roof or in the trunk. Teen kids love these and they are solid.

No modern car, truck, tractor, etc, that I know of is really EMP proof. Even harder to state as no one really knows what will happen if there is an EMP. I know my 8N Ford will run, I have complete electrical spares, including all wiring in a static bag, insulated, and in a ammo can sealed, covered with a second static bag, insulated in a garbage can. Guess I would go with a 4 wd, safe, and good gas mileage that she liked, in my wife's case a Subaru and a get home bag.

@duane, an older Subaru because I have heard that the newer models have had issues with the Boxer engines. But, their all wheel drive can't be beat.

Wife bought a 4wd F150 shortbed and put a topper on it and loves it. Getting to test it out on the snow and ice tonight on her way home from work :)
