Now I'm not slamming Les Stroud here, I kinda like the guy and I'm sure his survival knowlege is amazing, but I don't think the show is truthful about his being alone for a week without any help.

I've noticed several things that just didn't add up/make sense, but the latest one I noticed was that after 5 days in the Kalihari desert with temps up to 140F, he pulls a small piece of chocolate out of his pocket to polish a can with and it amazingly has not melted over the past week. I declare shenanigans!

stroud is pretty resourceful, but bryyls bites the heads off garter snakes and swallows the writhing tail section for breakfast...
he's also big on taking bites out of raw live fish fresh out of the stream...( NOt even any lemon or tatar sauce)..

Bear also drank his own urine (supposedly) which, as I understand, can be very dangerous. Les made a urine solar still to use it.

I remember many years ago at a survival training, folks were catching insects to make bug-mash for dinner. My camp had crawfish, frog-legs, fish, turtle, watercress, scallions, cat-tail roots and sprouts, and a pigeon, all cooked into a stew using a corn scoop that I found in an abandoned barn for a pot. If we'd had a little salt, wouldn't have been bad. Eating the damned things still wiggling?nah.

les stroud did a swamp trip the other night, the bites of frogs leg meat looked pretty good(he said it actually did taste like chicken),,,

Also notice on this episode he didn't last the full 7 days he called it quits after 5 or so (would have to rewind the TIVO to be sure of the days) he made a statement that his "Rescue" crew was about an hour away. What I've always figured is that he has a bunch of MRE's in that backpack of his.
Like him better than the other guy, just something about the way he conducts the show I think is good, Man vs Wild is just too out there for me
Les has a way to make it very realistic if it is not.

camera shots give me pause sometimes too, but I saw a quick clip of Les strapping a camera attached to a short "boom on a belt around his waist , that explains some of it...Both guys do stuff that is really unnecessary and dangerous..
" Wow, My progress has been stopped by this 100foot waterfall , normally you could hike around it and ford the river at a safer point, but I'm gonna show You how to climb down it with the kari-bamba vine.."

As far as the chocolate goes, there is a brand of chocolate that doesn't melt. I cant remember the name, but you could search for it.
I know the military uses it for some survival packs in aircraft, helio's and boats.

hmmmm....... maybe not busted then. Nah, I still don't believe him, too many other suspicious things. I do like the show though, alot more than man v. wild.

Yea I think he is full of it also .

I have only watched a few episodes but in 1 he states how he hasnt eatin in days bla bla bla yet you see a camer shot of him walking what I judge to be several hundred yards down hill in rugged terrain towards what he thinks is civilazation .

I honestly doubt if he was so famished he would leave a stationary camera to get a shot just to walk back uphill to retrieve it if he were all alone .

Although I find the show entertaining it would be nice if he would do more realistic situations .

Things like surviving with what the typical hunter/hiker in the pacific northwest would be carrying in a simple day or even a fanny pack .

For most I imagaine getting a fire wouldnt be the big deal he always makes of it but dealing with the elements and building a shelter would be .

It would also be nice if he gave tips on what a lost hunter should do when say packing out the meat to avoid being attacked by animals durring the night , a bear would trail you by the scent of the meat and come looking for a free lunch .

Great Idea..... put him 30 miles inside grizzly country, give him a rifle and tie an Elk steak around his neck! [LMAO] I'd buy that episode on dvd.

Actually, they have shown him repeatedly do this, then he walks all the way back to the camera to pick it up. He talks frequently about the camera work, and that it is the toughest part of the survival episodes, that and having to do it all alone, without even any company to talk to. I think that Les is the real deal.

I live in a ruff country, its not that hard to make it as long as your not a dumb ass.
