Just like to post said take care of your feet if you have a hard time walking or running when you need to it could be the end of you. These are from 20 and 25 mile humps with combat loads and a can of peaches

A lot of people have not been in any situations where this can happen to them and are therefore not aware of the importance of taking good care of their feet and having clean dry socks available to them.

You can be as prepared as you want, but a 20 mile march with a weighted pack is gruesome no matter what.
You can keep from having extensive injuries by wearing proper footwear that has been broken in, using liner socks, and stopping to change your outer socks frequently and to dry out your boots. If you're doing the hike in lighter, more pliable shoes, it's definitely easier.

I remember my infantry marches, and learning the hard way how to NOT use moleskin. Ouch.

I got to the point I did not wear socks they hurt me more that they helped me.

VERY important. You folks that sit and plan rather than breaking in those highly recommended boots are gonna suffer lots on foot.

I got well versed in foot care in military but more so during my mountaineering days. A fast fix for a blister is duct tape however the best thing to do is to ensure you don't get blisters and as soon as you feel one starting STOP and deal with it. Good broke-in boots, dry socks... and even then you still might get a blister and if you don't stop then you end up like those idiots in the photos thinking they are proving their manhood but are nothing more than causalities and cannot be counted upon to perform their part when needed.

My feet would sweat heavily and I'd have soggy shoes day after day ,
after having problem with circulation in my right leg I had to wear compression sox and wear them on both feet . Soggy foot issue went away on both feet using the nylon compression hose . before that I was wearing cotton or wool sox and soggy feet , go figure. those sox held the moisture and the nylon does not.

The nylon also add a layer of warmth under a pair of 'warm' socks. Compression hose do the same thing. People often wonder how they can be so cold, while a lady in a dress strolls on by. Nylon! I used to wear knee high nylons when I was deployed in colder areas of the world. Really helps keep the feet warm and as you have said it also helps with the circulation.

Joe Namath was the 1st man I remember advocating wearing women's hose for warmth .
Bishop , I've got a toe nail like that . A pallet fell on it from about 5 foot high . Smashed the toe , lost the nail , the nail grew back , but as the nail is attached , around the edges only , it is not attached in the center , and this causes toe jam to build up under the nail . I have to soak it to loosen the toe jam , and try to clean out from under the nail . I don't know what caused this , but you may have the same issue when your nail comes back . Ya might want to talk to a doc and see if there's anything you can do to to make sure it grows back properly .

Due to a right leg with a case of surface thrombosis, I wear a set of Job stockings under a set of wool socks during any long walks with or without a heavy load.

I remove my big toe nails a lot I play a lot of ball and from being on the ball of my feet it makes my big toe nsina crack across the middle and die I plan on just having them removed and cauterized so they don't grow back

Oh you guys.....extolling the virtues of wearing ladies hosiary like you only just discovered it. :D

I never had any problems with feet when walking at patrolling speed at 1-1.5 kph and could keep that up all day and all night even with a full combat load. Regular changing of socks, sun exposure of feet usually one foot at a time during during meal breaks when possible...one foot at a time...keeping feet and boots as dry as possible...and keeping feet free of fungal infection. As an officer, i not only had to keep my own feet in tip top shape, but had to conduct regular foot inspections of the soldiery to ensure that they were keeping good foot care discipline....that way feet weren't allowed to become neglected, and any problems were nipped in the bud quickly. Foot inspections were assisted by the platoon/ company medic. Who was well equipped with powders, creams and plasters.

Combat fitness tests were brutal 15 kilometer forced marches to be completed within 1.45hrs they got a bit old in my mid 40's. No choice but to beast through them regardless of pain and discomfort...carrying a full combat load including 4day's combat rats, 6-8 litres of water, e-tool, large pack, rifle, basic LBE belt, pouches, FAK, rifle cleaning kit, spare ANPRC25 set battery, and4-5 house bricks to simulate a combat load of ammo and pyrotechnics...maps and compass...codes, binos, and a hipflask of overproof rum....purely for medicinal purposes only...oh...and the weight of command responsibility. I marched with my soldiers...no sedan chairs for this sahib. :D

I learned the Trick of wearing ladies hosiery and it really made a difference. I found a nice tight fitting knee high winter weight seems best, ( Funny how compression socks are very close) and I have had very few issues. Combined with a set of sock liners under a good pair of wool socks and I could do a full combat load for days! My legs and knees and hips would be sore as hell, but never a blister or other skin issue!

I never considered myself better or superior to the soldiers that I commanded...I simply had additional resources and responsibilities that they didn't have to be burdened with. Critical thinking, problem solving, and making and executing tactical plans were important aspects of how I have become to be me.

I was a wild land fire fighter to thirty five years. Taking care of your feet was a top priority. Change out your socks as necessary to keep your feed dry and carry plenty of mole skin.
