This is a simple request from a simply member/patron... I would like to see a category dedicated to 'Films/Movies' new, old, documentaries, frankly, I don't care. Films can be many things, educational, exertainment, even inspiring. How about because it's funny! God knows, we can all use a laugh! What truly interests me are films that are worth my time to watch, and...AND, why the individual would recommend them. It could be from a interest in History, Survival training, Politics, it matters not... Yes, I know we are suppose to be these bad ass survival experts forum, preparing for Doomsday and more...but we're more than that. We are a community. A community of experience, intelligent, educated individuals that have more than one focus. Please consider my request
Adding a forum isn’t all that easy for anyone but the Site Owner, @melbo.... A sticky Thread in General Discussions could accomplished, by the Staff, fairly easily... So lets see what the Staff has to say, and proceed from there....
A sticky thread would be a good compromise...that way it could be easily found instead of it drowning in a flood of threads which have a short lifespan....sometimes what are you 'watching'/'listening to' and 'reading' threads can be hard to find if anyone hasn't posted to those threads in a while.
I think a subcategory would not work but what about a documentary tag? Example: If someone posts a documentary on wells, the thread would be tagged documentary and water. Or if someone posted a film about history, it would be tagged- documentary and history. We do have tags that are video topic, video share and video.
I agree on the watching/listening/reading threads being hard to find with the search feature. I find that once I've made a contribution to a thread I can more easily track it down in "my content" on my profile page.
Correct, access to the software is needed to add a new subforum. One thing we discovered a while back is that a large number of subforums will make searching no easier. Methinks that stickies under "humor, games and diversions" makes sense, YMMV.
How does one 'tag' something? I will have to look into this as never done it. EDIT: So, looking at this thread, since I am the author, I see in the upper left corner 'add tags' and when I click on it, it allows me to type in any tag I want. So, the question is how does one know specifically how to tag something? Is there a list somewhere or ???
Definitely worth while, there are many movies still worth watching. And I love a good documentary about history in general.
Yes, that is nice, but for it to be truly functional, we would need to agree on specific tags, specific words, wouldn't we? I mean, one calls them 'films', another calls them 'movies' while another calls them 'documentaries'...
@Bandit99 ya can use 4 plus tags films plus movies plus documentaries plus videos or what ya feel is gud based on the content
Sounds like a Sticky Thread, along with Tags should take care of this... I can do that easily.... The last question needed to be answered is "which forum" should it be added to? I was thinking "General Discussion" or maybe "Reading Room" ... However, "Reading Room" has Used all it's Stickies for Online Books of various Authors... I do NOT want to interrupt that Line of thinking... So, if there is a consensus on WHERE, I will get'er Done...
This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. Folks have asked for a list of tags for a couple of years and the best anyone can do is point us at the list of most frequently used ones. So...I started a thread and I'm up through ALL of the tags through "d". A comprehensive list of all tags Each "letter" takes anywhere from 3-10 minutes to do manually (entering each 2-3 letter combination at the beginning and adding each one to a new thread, copying out, pasting to notepad/text editor and starting over with the next first letter). Just a little time consuming unless one of you mods actually has access to the back end to dump the entire list. I would assume you don't, otherwise we would have created this thread 2+ years ago.
just start typing and a tag will pop-up in the tag search bar. @DarkLight an up-grade removed the ability to print the whole list. Please note: only top admin can remove a tag so if there is an error and there are some.
There are some more "tips and tricks" for tagging and other stuff in the "Site Announcements" forum. Not very comprehensive on tagging, but there ya go. @Bandit99 - You can tag your thread anyway that appeals to you, as @DarkLight says, and there's no need to use one that already exists. (You can see where that might take us, yes?) Also, you can add (and I think change or delete your tag in your thread; you can test that at your leisure) at any time, and so can one or another of those fiendish persnickety staffies that sometimes lurk around looking for things to fuss about. @DarkLight - Admin can access the entire list. Trust me, it is EXTENSIVE; there are 33 pages of 50 tags. I don't know how or when they all were added, there may be something in the software that does it based on something I can't see. (@sec-monkey, "applications") There may be a good reason to live with the 200 most recent (click on "trending tags down the right column on the main page that gets updated daily. There's a search box for those that don't appear, IIRC.) If/when you get that list done to your satisfaction, we'll move it to announcements if you think that might be a better place for it as a tip and trick. There may be a better idea, so we won't lock this thread for a while and see if better ideas come along When the list is pretty well done, we can lock it to prevent distortion by useless interjections. Now then folks, we've drifted off the movie review idea. Pending tags, anything else for now?
Okay. I will write up a post later on about a film I watched last night and tag it with 'film" and 'movie'. I will post it under General.
Seriously...3 hours of figuring out all the tags and you created a new one? Please tell me you updated the post in the other thread.
