This isn’t coming by way of Legislation, but by way of redefining a Regulation....

They are truly pushing it trying to do this with a Regulation change. LOL! But, it is a perfect example of exactly how these Agencies use regulations that are in truth laws without the legislative process. It will be interesting to see if the NRA will weigh in to stop them. I frankly, don't care about Bump Stocks but do care about the precedent this sets.

In the beginning of this cluster F the NRA was the first to say that ATF should figure out if bump stocks should be legal or not, so don't count on them. That was the same time that I gave up all support to them. GOA is going to file a lawsuit on the first day, so support them. GOA link: Home

Went to NRA-ILA's home page and no mention of this...SURPRISE!!!

How in the world can an Agency simple decide what is legal or not? That is a legislative decision then the Agency can enforce that decision but to give them authority to decide cannot be legal so we'll watch this carefully and if the court upholds this - well - then toss in the towel, boys and girls, because it is game over.

If I had a bump stock I wouldn't turn it in.
I have always though they were stupid and given the fact that I can't hit anything with 2 of 3 rounds fired from an M16A2 on burst that confirmed my suspicions that they are pretty much useless to me.

Alphabet agencies do this all the time and although not constitutionally legal there are plenty of people that have had their lives ruined with prison time and fines. I always have to laugh when someone says we live in a free country, right.

What really bothers me here, this sets dangerous president for future ruling on other things, basically an end run around for an out right ban of any and all firearms through their accessories! Today it's bump stocks, tomorrow it's flash suppressors, day after that, it's collapsing stocks, and forward grips, and folding sights, and detachable mags, and mags that hold more then 5 rounds, and ......................................................................................

Well, yes and no. Congress evidently created the agency and gave it powers to regulate. Like it or not, the regulations have the force of law and can be enforced exactly the same way. Sucks, but there it is as I understand it. (Been wrong before ---).

All bad precedents begin as justifiable measures...as someone much wiser than me once said.

This is just one more action , in a long line of actions , aimed at making the 2nd Amendment effectively worthless.
The goal of disarming America is best done by :
Overly regulating , restricting and dare I say infringing , the 2nd Amendment , as well as making it far too much of hardship to exercise as a Right.

I have zero interest in Bumpstocks...but by calling and "making" this firearm accessory something that it is not , just means that the ATF , can make up the definitions as they see fit or to fit a political agenda....And that is overbearing , heavy handed and bordering on tyranny.

Yeah, that's the crux of the matter as Ghrit put it. The only caveat is the "agency" in question is in fact entirely unconstitutional, though not officially declared as such (as with virtually everything in this corporate paradise we have), but Congress could, say, essentially grant the authority to a privately owned corporation to collect taxes from every citizen and judges can meet with them in private to come up with new and exciting legislation to further their agenda. Oh wait, that's already happened, too. Then there's the "law", and Ghrit worded his response perfectly. Having the force of law is not to be confused with actually being lawful, but here at our level being common citizens (notice there's no capitalization on 'C') it makes no difference. The important part to remember is not whether it's Constitutional, legal or lawful, but if it's enforceable by the ruling class of the society, and in our case, it's the Fascist corporate oligarchy known as "government". As long as the people continue to remain divided and do not resist in a manner that is consistent with actions necessary to topple a regime in power, this will never change for the better. Unless, of course folks still believe they can "vote" themselves into a prosperous position and suddenly receive the blessings of liberty, because only a delusional person would ignore the way we actually became a nation in the first place. But, I digress.

The Constitution doesn't apply to us any more. Technically, the only time it can be applied is if you understand how the codes work and reserve your rights beforehand (see my signature line for example), but that's no guarantee either because it's still up to the presiding judge to determine your..."eligibility" which would be based on any contract in question or implied consent and so on. Slaves. That's all the people have become.

There are still 90 days of amnesty registration for machineguns that were never used in 68, enough people speak up and they might amnesty register them along with any other "questionable" items since the amnesty was pretty much blanket in definition. If we demand that amnesty be enacted, they will have to comply or face a serious constitutional issue. Time to speak up, petition, advertise, demand!

There are many gov. Agencies created by the gov. To tax, collect tax, and other nasty not nice things, and most are illegal, ATF, DHS, IRS, BLM, Forestry, the hydroelectric authorities, ect.....it's a pretty long list of agencies with no legal standing, not officially charterd by Congress, and thanks to Obummer, many of these now have enforcement powers, ( standing army) to swell the ranks of armed personal under control of the gooberment, with out the oversight like the U.S. Mil.
