Sporks. Love them or hate them?




Anyone ever used one? The serrated/knife part is worthless, IMO. So is the fork. I do like to use it as a spoon. But I could have bought a knife that had a spoon on it. I have looked at the titanium sporks but not sure if they are more gadget junk or worth the money.

 

Love them personally and for food service.... better yet customers love them as well. Think I have 20k of them in the warehouse building atm. All hail the SPORK!

 

For the cost of a Spork I can easily grab a butter knife, fork and spoon to add to my bag of tricks and have money left over. For the cost of the Titanium Spork I'll have a enough leftover to buy a multitool or Swiss Army Knife that has a can opener. Although measurable, the weight saved by carrying a spork is insignificant. The space saved in also insignificant as well. I learned in the military that sporks are worthless. I will grab some $0.25 silverware from the kitchen and be on my way.

 

I have several types of sporks, and find that I only use them as spoons. Some are poorly shaped orcsizex for even that. So, no I simply use a spoon for camping meals. If I need a fork or knife I use one. I did find a good price on a long handled titanium spork, for reaching down into MH pouches. It's so thin and light, it feels flimsy but is actually pretty strong. The bowl is too big for comfort in the mouth. The tines are too small to be of use.

 

I paid a buck or two on Amazon for one as shown in the OP for my lunchbox. It lasted two weeks before it broke during normal service.

 

Whats wrong with eating with your hands like a normal savage?

Every time I hear spork I think "live lork and procspork"

 

There ok in a pinch, but a better option is a double ender with a Spoon on one end, Fork on the other, made of stainless and robust enough to last!
That Light My Fire brand is hit and miss, some of their stuff is pretty neat-0, some not so much! But I give them a thumb and a half for effort and cool ideas/ thinking outside the box!

 

We have a knife type tool that has a fork and spoon plus a knife. One just has to make sure they clean it real good and make sure food does drip into the knife part otherwise it dries and it hard to get open.

Small, lightweight, not expensive and they make 'em here. Not ideal at any of it's many tasks, but acceptable and won't break like plastic. I plan on stuffing one in each of my various bags and two in the glove box of each vehicle.

The can opener part works like crap, but if I was hungry enough I could make it work.

A spork is the unhallowed offspring of a defective fork and a degenerate spoon. Each functions worse than the other.

If I had a spork out in the bush, the first thing I would do is dig a latrine, and put the spork in the bottom of it.

By the way, am I the only person on the planet (Janet!) that has a fork that's sharpened on one side?

 

I recently got from Amazon a three-utensil gadget. It comes apart into two pieces - one is a folding fork & bottle opener, the other has folding spoon & knife, each has one half of the checkered handle. Handles come in a few colors. Mine is green. Works okay, spoon & fork are standard styles, knife is a bit odd and sharper than a dinner knife. Could cut meat okay. Haven't really used it yet, so I still need to test it.

 

Yes, it works OK, but I prefer a longer handle. The spoon could be improved by being deeper; it would not be my first choice for soup, but in the field I prefer to drink soup from a mug. It doesn't have enough reach for an open can,either. IMO it could be improved a bit. I still use my ancient backpacking gear that includes my aluminum boy scout kit along with a sturdy pie pan small enough to be handy while being big enough to get the job done. The Eating Tool works pretty well with them. It's claim to fame is minimal size and weight so it can be stashed anywhere.

 

Who needs a spork - I got me some of these bad boys back when they were under 1 USD per set. Heavy duty stainless.

Same time got several SS Swede mess kits - one for each of the kiddos. Bombproof and alcohol powered.....

 

I have an assortment of double ended and folding titanium sporks, free flexible plastic sporks from Taco Bell, various military utensil sets and hospital plastic utensils.

My most recent addition was a gift. It's a black nylon(?) Ka-bar with a serrated knife that pulls out of the handle. This is a nice touch, but unnecessary, since I always have a more suitable blade. (A knife is generally the only utensil I use in the field.) The spork end is uncomfortably narrow, and doesn't work at all for me.

 

The knife fork and spoon have been around a very long time and the camp stainless is just fine with me.
I have had the spork . not a fan.
Had the pocket knife with the knife fork and spoon all in one , not a fan if you were depending on eating steak none of that junk works . A real fork holds the meat my fixed blade bowie knife cuts the steak and the fork serves it. Ever try eating soup with a spork , what a joke , may as well drink it out of the can.
I don't go into the woods to endure it, I go there to enjoy things .
I savor my food, I don't wolf it down .
I save the hurry mode for when there's a fire I'm running from/to .
One way or another you'll have to wash that instrument ,may as well be 3 .
And some times the full shape of a real spoon is handy. ,carving out a soft boiled egg, removing the segments of grapefruit
