I still have part of a stinger left in my finger. I have been reading different ways to get it out. The method of using tape to draw out a splinter or stinger seems to be the most effective. Other ways like scraping the item out is conflicting- some say do, some say don't

Here are some suggestions that I found in an article:

I have never tried any of the other methods. Anyone had success using baking soda or hydrogen peroxide?

Myself, I have used an x-acto knife and alcohol. Fortunately, I have a high pain tolerance.

I usually use tweezers to remove the item, but sometimes a needle is called for to lift an end to get a grip. If the item is ferrous, a strong magnet can help with extrication.

They say tweezer are okay for splinters but with stingers, it can push venom in further. There also is also conflicting info on using a credit card or something to scrape the area in hopes something will pop out.

Most stingers detach without the venom sac ...honeybees however, commonly leave the sac attached to the stinger along with muscles that continue to pump venom through the stinger. Carefully scraping the area can remove the stinger/sac but going the wrong direction will cause more venom to be injected. I suspect this is why you are finding discord in opinions.

BTW, a sawyer extractor can help draw out objects, too.

Having an allergy to bee stings, scrape the venom sack free of the stinger. Even with the venom sack of a honey bee removed, extracting the stinger may inject more venom. Wasps, yellow jackets, and other stinging insects retain their stingers and may impale you several times.

I can usually get splinters out with a knife blade.

I've had three that I couldn't get out by myself. Two were steel and the other was something in a dust devil that came in through the passenger side window and smacked me in the face while driving. All of them left rust rings in my eyes and had to be removed at the emergency room with a tiny needle. Such a fine needle that I barely felt any pressure as one went right through my nose. The doc was trying to get his arms into position around the exam fixture while holding the needle in his fingers. Bleeding down both sides of my nose, I felt sorry for the doc, who was terribly embarrassed, and now had to deal with the mess I was making.

The work on the eye, even after it's numbed is a special kind of torture, including grinding out the rust ring, but it's better than the unrelenting pain of a splinter in the eye.

IMG_20190225_153422. IMG_20190225_153542. Sawyer extractor. It comes in a small kit and uses something that looks like a syringe to apply suction. Or one of these. Another thing that helps is a rat tooth thumbnail forceps. It looks like odd tweezers, with a "V" shape on one side, and a wedge on the other side.

I have no clue what type of bug it was. But it was when I was in FL. But a week plus later, I have a bump developing and it is itching. I have determined something is still in there. Most on here are into digging things out but you mentioned wood glue. How long do you leave it on there?

Have you been hit by a hive of bald faced hornets? They usually don't come as a single bastard, they bring a bunch of friends and seem to effortlessly find you at speed as you race though the pine boughs as you futility attempt escape.

2019.02.25.04.44.20. I forgot about Elmer's glue. Leave it on until it dries, then peel in the direction the splinter or stinger went in.
More on the Sawyer extractor, it also removes poisons from snake bite and stings. I have even used it to make mosquito bites stop itching. Available in the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart, cost about $15.00 I gave my last one to a friend who is allergic to bee stings. Looks like I'll be getting a couple more of them soon.
