Seems to me that the way to mitigate all the 5G RF issues is to put the Subscriber End of the link, up on a Tower, or Pole, and then bring the Connection down over 10Gbs Ethernet, to a local Layer 3 Switch inside the building... That way the 20-40Ghz stuff is high up on the tower using Antenna Gain, and narrow Beamwidths to keep any Bad effects well out of the living area of the place... The layer3 Switch/Router can the breakout the different Services from the 5G, and route them to the uses that they need over local Wired, and Wireless links... Here If they went to 5G it wouldn't change anything for us, except a 5G Transceiver/Antenna added to the tower, and a Run of. CAT 6 wire, down to my layer 3 Switch, that would replace the 4G Hardware that we use now... Bring it on...
After a week of dealing with Hughes alleged high speed internet and 1/4 of 1mb UL speeds............ I will take my 5G and any minimal risk it might pose!
@Thunder5Ranch get pure fiber if ya can get cable over fiber plus coax get semi-reliable DSL 4G LTE is usable speed wise but insecure 5G is expected to be fast but will be insecure especially if huawei builds the network if ya cannot get anythin else get sat as a last resort
HughesNet has always sucked... Starband was always better, but now that they are gone, there are only a few services still around, and a few Vaporware Outfits that still need to get their Sat launched...
Normally have the 4G at home with the Verizon tower. Got the Hughes as back up while the tower is getting some major upgrades and is down for the next 2-3 weeks. It is better than Nothing and I can live with the 25-30MB DL speeds but I UL a LOT and could live with Hughes advertises 5mb UL speeds not ideal but workable. DSL, Cable, PFO all non starters..... We don't even have land line phones out in this remote part of the County. Only Options for internet are Verizon or Hughes and if I had to pay what I hear everyone else bitching about verizon charging them, Hughes would be my only option. One neighbor told me she used 75Gigs one Month and Verizon billed her $1300 for it in overages for her 30 gig plan. What Hughes is good for is watching streaming video, checking email and trolling forums I am a hour into uploading a file that normally would take me 5-7 minutes to UL Grrrr.
5G isn't so much about speed but more bandwidth. 900 mhz is more dangerous to tissue as it runs much more power. Most 5G will fall in the 3.2 to 3.6 ghz spectrum with power in milliwatts and ERP power of only a watt or two. By comparison, 5.8 ghz used in television links with those big radome dishes can be 15,000 watts ERP. Anyone with an RF spectrum analyzer can show you how much RF there is in the world and it would shock most people to see just how much RF bombards us every day. 2.4 and 5.8 ghz used in WI-FI has become almost unusable in urban areas because there is so much in use. Smart meters? They fall in the 430 mhz range and output milliwatts, not nearly the exposure levels of the 900 mhz cordless phones we hold up to our heads. 5G and ATSC 3.0 are coming, and unless you move up with BTPost, there isn't much we can do about it.

It is not clear what you are trying to protect against. 5g has to meet fcc requirements regarding radio field strength requirements for exposure to the public. That, it seems, they do. So far, from what I've gathered, the risk to a person from 5g emissions is less than a cell phone, much as was worried over years ago and microwaves before that. I think this is just another tempest in a teapot, no additional "protections" needed. All that said, I'm still in listening and learning mode, but I'm truly not worried about low density milliwatts of rf in a corner of my kitchen.
It is true that MOST of the posts on the Web, about the dangers of 5G are written by Non-Technical types, that regurgitate stuff they gleaned from Technical Journals, but do NOT have the background to interpret the Data Properly... and present it in a way Non-Technical Folks can understand and make sense out of... a NOTE here... When Tempster posts Now 15Kw ERP seems like it should fry anyone and anything that is near it, if you look at the construction of the links, that he is presenting, that ERP is mostly arrived at by Antenna Gain (BIG Dome Dishes) and the actual Tx Power is less than a 100 Watt Lightbulb... Also if you are NOT Standing directly in front of the Focal Point of the Dish, and directly inside the Fresnel Zone of the Dishes Radiation Pattern, you are perfectly safe from that enormous ERP... That is the beauty of Microwaves... BIG Antennas with very High Gains, are easy to design and build, and just a little bit of RF Power gets you very High ERPs, and good Bandwidths and Ranges for these Point to Point Links... We used to have a Part15 (UnLicensed) Telco Link here that had 6' Dishes on each end of a 15 mile link, over water, at 2.4Ghz Spread Spectrum.. The same band as WIFI uses... I had to be careful in deploying 2.4Ghz WIFI around Camp, so as to NOT interfere with the T1 Telco link, and take down our whole Phone System... The ERP on the Link was so High, due to the Antenna Gain, we had to put 10db Attenuators in the Antenna Coax just to get the RSLs (Receive Signal Level) inside the Receiver Frontend Specs.. The Tx Power on each end was 1 Watt...
Truthfully, there is no need to protect yourself from it. The power levels reduce at a logarithmic rate over distance. For example, our studio to transmitter link on high power can put out 37,000 watts of effective radiated power at the studio, but 53 miles away at the transmitter the power is 229 micro watts. Just enough to get a -83 db signal. The point is, at the end user level the exposure level is not worth talking about, despite what the fearmongers would have you believe. I know many older guys that have worked in strong RF fields their whole career and show no ill effects. It is simply a non issue. There is far more exposure from your cordless or cell phone, a little transmitter that folks put right next to their brain bucket, than any smart meter or 5G source.
