I wonder about the future and the use of AI to control people. what it would take to stop it?
Will people just stand by and have our society become like China?

People are almost zombie like now. Faces stuck in their phones. Nitwits protesting, and they really don’t even know why they’re protesting. Mostly because some other nitwit says so.
Do away with computers, and all the instant news from all over the world. Social media needs to go.

Humans are a danger to themselves; artificial intelligence will be used to make militarism around the globe more deadly, corporations more profitable and powerful, and the people obey their masters.

I don't think computers are the root cause, more like smartphones. The freedom of information and ability to hack has given us more time, and it's the restricted access on smartphones and everything social media that's dragging us backward.

AI and Automation that we are seeing in develop in agriculture will one day eliminate people like me from the equation. Heck it will pretty much eliminate every small farm that can't pony up millions of dollars for the latest technologies to stay competitive. Still 8-10 years from much of it being viable, but the prototype harvesters, weeders/cultivators, planters are getting better each year. On the livestock front, why move yer animals from pasture to pasture and remember to close the gates...... when a couple of AI Drones can move them and the gates open and close on their own. The biggest Dairy farms have already moved to AI Robotic milkers and milk flow systems. AI is not far away at all from being the mainstay for commodity crops.

Yep I think AI and automation will kill us as a society eventually, but not because we are going to see skynet and terminators. Rather because we will become so dependent and incapable as a species (Which we as a whole are now days a very dependent species) And modern technology has so many vulnerabilities from EMPS to Malware being capable of taking control of the best systems and crashing them. Something as simple as all of the ag equipment that will be AI, Automated and reliant on GPS or the self driving tractor trailers that will replace human drivers and the fact that even with human operators the technology still won't function with the sensors and computers crashed out. Kind funny but expensive to repair was my round baler, a lightning strike hit a tree next to it. Did not hit the baler but every circuit, sensor and the computer in it were all fried. That was just good ole natural static electricity. Imagine what large scale disasters or intentional attacks would do.

When every aspect of modern human life is dependent on fragile technology, yeah that will be the start to the end and it could be argued that we are already well down that path.

    Bwahahahahahahahaha. AI is here.
It's used everyday to target sales offers, used to determine your worthiness, predict your actions in the short term and long term as well. It may know you better than you do yourself.

Wait until it's the arbitrageur for whether or not you get a procedure to save your life. That's when you'll know we are done.

How to stop it? Short of blowing up the globe killing everything that could repair and maintain the infrastructure before computers/AI/Robots can do it for themselves .. not much. AI is already making new AI. People are helping it become more accurate. And it's learning from it's mistakes. Yep, as humans, we are creating our own demise. Granted, we'll probably be dead before it comes to pass, most likely our kids will be our age. It'll be our grandkids that will bear brunt, kinda like the environment and debt we've piled on them. They are so screwed.

You can mitigate AI's impact on your life by staying health, self-sufficient, disconnected and out of the system. But in today's modern era, good luck with that unless you are already living it where technology is a convenience and not a necessity. But stupidly smart humans will do something tragic that will impact everyone by tweaking that one gene, or creating a new chemical, running that one new algorithm that begins the cascade of our ruin.

As VTjr would say .. embrace the suck.

Hahaha,I remember when the ''New Technology'' was tried in the oilfield.
Automated valves opening and closing wells on command from a control center in Houston....
Crap couldn't handle the hostile environment,Ended up with delayed commands or no commands getting thru and as an added plus pollution in the Gulf.

What truly worries me about this, is what becomes of the population - I mean - it will be so cost effective that no company or organization will be able to resist. AI will change the environment we live and work in and basically will replace us - literally. Why have a human do it if an AI can do it 24/7, needs no food, water, benefits, sick time... Okay there will be some people involvement but very little. There is very little a man can do that an AI controlled robotic cannot. Hell, even doctors will be replaced with much, much higher success rates. AI will produce their own spare parts, detect failures in operating units, probably even deliver the necessary parts by AI drones...but what happens to the billions of people? What do they do for employment? How do they make their crust of bread?

Being the paranoid I am, I think it is NOT the AI mankind needs to worry about but mankind itself. At some point, it will cost more to care (food, shelter, clothes, etc.) for the lower IQs non-producers, say those with an IQ less than 115 which is 68% of the world population or less than 130 which is 95% of the world population (which probably would be too harsh but depends on current population). I mean, think about it, basically almost everything they can do is being done much more effectively by an AI system so why do they even exist or, better said, why are they allowed to continue to exist and breed more sub-standard humans, more mouths, more consumers... Also should you improve the breeding stock you improve the human. The reasoning to eliminate the lower IQs is completely logical even if it is immoral. I mean, what are they going to do mop floors? No, already being done by R2D2.

It's not AI that will eliminate us but mankind...and it will definitely be within this century.

    Some rough notes on IQ:
Over 140 - Genius or near genius
    120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence
    110 - 119 - Superior intelligence
    90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence
    80 - 89 - Dullness
    70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency
    Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

    Normal Distribution & IQ Scores
The properties of the normal distribution apply to IQ scores:
50% of IQ scores fall between 90 and 110
70% of IQ scores fall between 85 and 115
95% of IQ scores fall between 70 and 130
99.5% of IQ scores fall between 60 and 140

Hmmm...me thinks you might be simplifying this a bit much, Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein had IQs of 160 or more... A Korean named Kim Ung-Yong with an IQ of 210 could already read English, Korean, Japanese, and German by the time he was 3 years old and by the time he was 4 years was writing poetry and short stories. Or, how about Christopher Hirata, IQ 225, got the Gold Medal at the International Physics Olympiad in 1996 when he was just 13! He went on to work on a NASA project at the age of 16 and obtained his PhD from Princeton at 22. Anyway, granted some had some weird quirks; nevertheless, smart folks, world changing smart... However, having said this...here is a quote concerning that smartness...

"Having a high IQ does not necessarily mean that the person is intelligent or very ‘smart’. The problem with IQ tests is that although they’re pretty good at assessing our deliberative skills (which involve how we use our working memory and reason), but they are not able to assess our inclination to use them when the situation demands."

So, much of this intelligence comes down to the old Thomas Edison saying of "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Great accomplishments depend not so much on ingenuity as on hard work."

If we somehow manage not to kill ourselves first AI will eventually become our masters. Humans are comparatively weak and vulnerable compared to other animals; what makes us top dog is our intelligence. Once we become the second most intelligent on the planet we will no longer be the top dog. Since we make no contribution to the well being of the new top dog we will be ignored until we become inconvenient. The, very quickly, we will be eliminated.

A CME would be a blessing even though we would have a 90% die off. AI is projected to be thousands of times smarter than humans within the next 15 years. When it develops self awareness, and it will, we will be toast.

corn bread is square! that is such shock to me :ROFLMAO:

IQ tests don mean anything much above 100. as the testing pattern is weak above 100

The danger will be if and when the AI becomes self aware and then views mankind as a threat to its existence.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

I don't think AI has to be self aware to be dangerous. It's not so much that AI may come to view mankind as a threat as that it may eventually classify mankind as an inconvenience.
