Here we have a crane crew trying to tip over a crane.
The load was too far out for the boom and it was falling away and pulling the crane over.
I stopped all work and order a safety stand down.
The next day they had to do a full crane inspection, and a crane operator was let go, and one from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Florida flew out to take over.
So far the new operator is doing fine.
I wasn’t very popular for a few days after wards.
That’s the short story of it.

Glad you got rid of a safety problem and that no one got hurt.

Quigley The pictures are quite magnificent and needless to say impressive. Once you start putting the pieces together how long before the turbine is operational or at least ready to test. Elliott

Congrats on the promotion, well done, Quigs!! I had to jettison a crane operator last year for trying to boom down about 5 feet outside the safe zone. He tipped the crane and busted up a bit of masonry, dimpled a strut. Had to take the crane out of service and bring in another one. The hell of it is, he was a fine operator up until then, not a hitch in the gittalong along year and a half. How he did it remains a mystery, the rig was fully computerized.

I live in Pryor, Oklahoma. Highway 69 runs through the middle of town, and a lot of trucks come through. I swear a couple of weeks back I saw a semi hauling one of those blades north on 69. I couldnt figure out what it was at first, it was just so damn big. I thought "it looks like a fan blade... but do they make them that BIG?" I guess they do. heh, It was impressive, and now that Ive seen those pics, it seems even more impressive. I wonder where they were taking the one I saw?

Kinda hard for the operator to argue what he did when you got a picture of it. [own2] Good job.

I've seen some operator's push the envelope of loads but not that much. I like going home to my family and wouldn't want to be around that operator.

Cool, let me know when you do. I'll kill two birds with one stone on the visit. My buddy working there told me about his first trip on the hub, screw that.
