Fun times! I got to see the tail end of that era! THe late 60's and early 70's was the best time for motorsports, where Cars were designed and built on pure design and talent, and drivers drove them for the reward of winning and not huge paydays!
Cars were Pure, drivers skilled, and the racing was all about racing and not commercialism!

This was THE car I wanted to drive when I grew up! Insanely fast, bent every rule there was, scared the hell out of the competition and became legend!

We had MG's in the family, ( still have a nice old 67 "B") and enjoyed them as they were meant to be!
When I was in High School and contemplating my first car and minimum budget, I was looking for a car that was sporty, classy, and could fit more then 2 people! While I loved many, I absolutely fell head over heels for my 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV8! ( before you start googeling, NO, Alfa never made such a beast) but I did! LOL
It has been a love unending this whole time, that little Alfa is really something special, and the longer I own it, the more I love it!
I blew the original 1700CC motor about 4 months after I bought it, missed a shift and over reved it! Built the snot out of a 2.0L and ran the hell out of it for many years, producing so many speeding tickets in my family that NO ONE would even think of driving it around the block any more, they all said that car was wicked evil!
When I was stationed in Germany, I found a parts place/race shop not to far away that specialized in all things Alfa Romeo performance, and they got me set up with a Non U.S. spec Alfa 2.7L V-8 from a wrecked Montreal that we bored and stroked to 4.2L and it makes 450 HP of the most wonderful Italian Symphony you will ever hear! Best part is it 100% pure breed Alfa, and it really draws the crowds!
I have to thank the English for making those little sport cars, with out, we wouldn't have sport cars like we do! All the Sport cars that have come were in answer to the success of those little post war Brit cars!

There was a time I was jonesin' for an MGTC in the worst way, just never had the spare cash for it. The Prince of Darkness lived in the T series also, and it wasn't a nice thing when he appeared on the way home after the sun set. A buddy and I got stranded in upstate NY in his TD.

PoD also had a residence in my 56 AH LeMans. Never did get it running, there was something that kept fire out of the cylinders. Had to sell it when I got transferred.

One major thing about the cars then and now and that is serviceability . Practically every thing was accessible then and needed to be . Now days few people know how to get in a vehicles works and most are afraid . Rightfully so with all the added smog and emissions controls and such there is so much spaghetti under the hood you can hardly see the engine it's self. .
