Our country has so many debts and obligations. Is the idea of energy companies paying some sort of dividend or more taxes a way to help out the country? Help keep us from going down the drain? I'm not really crazy about the idea. Maybe folks from Alaska want to post on this. I once heard about how if gasoline goes up a penny it brings in that many billions more. Obama once pitched the idea of an energy tax for everyone like Alaska. Maybe it's a dumb idea. I was considering what could keep things going. Thoughts?
A major revamp of the money the .gov steals from us on a daily basis would be a great start . The money they piss away is astronomical , and then they want more of our hard earned money , to fund their projects , not ours .
The energy companies are already saddled with regulation that prevents making more than breakeven revenue, especially considering the need for capital investments/improvements. More taxes will make the grid much more vulnerable. I recommend reducing spending rather than finding new ways to spend our money or increase taxes.
Companies may collect taxes, but in the end, REAL PEOPLE are who pay them. Fine....slap a tax on whatever company or product you wish....in the end, the consumers of that product or service are the ones that actually pay it, because the company simply passes it along in the form of higher prices, or lower returns for the investors in that company.....you know....real people. Really want to goose the economy ? Remove ALL taxes from business and watch out for the stampede of new jobs that flock to this country from other countries trying to collect "their fair share" from businesses. Politicians have done an excellent mind screw on most folks convincing them business somehow pays taxes. Merely shows how stupid the general population is as a whole.
Taxation without representation is theft. Taxation with representation is theft. When you get right down to it, all taxation is theft.
I guess everyone is waiting for SHTF. I think it will be so bad I would rather come up with ways to avoid it.
It never ceases to amaze me that sheeple believe this and are so easily conned into thinking that they won't be paying the taxes. Mind-numbingly me-centric. Now, there are some good reasons for taxation for the common good, but we are burdened so far beyond fixing potholes in the roads (which doesn't get done anyway) and trying to control the uncontrollable (pervs and felons of all stripes) that a complete reset is past due.
All I know is my taxes are going up again this year. I have been back to the states only 4 years and every year my taxes go up and it's not only the Feds, it's the State and County also. My County rules and regulation is obsessive, need a permit even to turn around, and most definitely their tax is going up again this year. Now, the Fire Protection services want an huge increase outside of the current tax rate which I cannot understand since their budget increases with taxes but they are saying it just isn't enough. It's not that I doubt them or even that I don't want to give it to them but I am paying so much in taxes that I can't afford to give anymore. I pay for 3 public schools that also requested and received a special Levy. Frankly, I don't want to pay for schools, don't think we get our money worth and think it should be on those raising their children to educate them. Anyway...nothing is going to change so it does no good to bitch about it.
@bandit,,, nothing is going to change,,,,, the only wrong part of this statement is the missing part,,,,, “ nothing is going to change- for the better- so no reason to bitch about it.
That would be ideal but so long as the Government operates on a tax and spend principle (Even the GOP and Conservatives) and the majority of the population believes they can borrow their way out of debt.......... that outcome don't look to promising.
I may drill my own oil well...Refine it and have a black market operation... Having said that...When Fedzilla shows up to bust me,I'll show them where to drill so that the royalty checks can stack-up. Hopefully they will complete the well this year...But I'm not holding my breath on that...hahaha!
Right now "The Government" makes more money on oil than the oil companies. In Alaska 88% of each $ in revenue goes to taxes on the oil companies....
We don’t want SHTF at all. What we want is to reduce out of control government spending. If I find that I am running a deficit in my household budget at the end of the month I can’t just run out and get another jpb if I am already working max hours between my full time job and my reserve job. So, what I do is reduce my spending until it balances out. If that means I have to cut out luxuries then that is what I do. We just want the government to do the same...
Careful what you wish for.....the economy is only running 2-3% positive.....cut govt spending back to just what they take in from tax/fee revenue, and we'd have a depression. We've come to live on phony, printed 'money' for so long, if it were suddenly gone, most would be crying, and many unemployed.
