  1. I just watched a video on Dish about building a "Glock" type pistol on a 80% finished plastic frame. Has anyone done this? What caliber? It looks like a fun experiment.

Never tried it. Not a Glock fan really.
There were several videos under the title "Iron Glock" that detailed the essential steel components, and their fabrication.

I have done 2 so far, its pretty simple to do, and if you shop the sales online for compete upper assemblies or components, it does save a few coins!
What I like is the P80 frames "Fix" a lot of the gripes I have always had with standard Glocks! Currently Have a G17 and a G-26 type 9mm and am shopping a G-20 build that is as good as the origional with out the issues speciffic to the G-20.
Would also like a .45 cal mid size P80 build!

Please tell me what 'gripes' you are speaking about as I have 3 Glocks and they seem to be fine...but maybe they could be better?

    Sure!
I have always had issues with Glocks Mag release button, hard to find ( especially with gloves on) and because its almost flush and the same texture, a bugger to change mags at times. The P80 has more "Feel" and with an oversize button, mag changes are much easier now!
Second, the grip surface ish, slippery and hard to get a good consistent grip every single time, and worse trying to maintain grip when wet, unless you are wearing gloves. Note all the companies that offer a stippeling job! P80 has a much nicer aggressive texture that has just the right amount of grip!
Third, the trigger loop/guard, stock Glock tends to "Ride" my middle finger and messes up my grip, my trigger finger tends to ride the bottom of the trigger and i dont get that nice consistent feel. P80 under cuts the loop gaining much needed room for the middle finger with out ridding and i get a higher more natural grip, plus, i found it pushes the mjzzle down, so now My target hold is the same as the M-9 and 1911, making it much easier to switch hit between the three! It almost feels like a Jericho 941( Baby Eagle) now, one of my other favorites!

I can shoot any Glock to U.S.M.C pistol expert scores all day long, but now with the P80, my accuracy and scores went way up because i can finally get a good grip on the darn thing! Angle never effected me, but the P80 seems to feel a little more natural to me, closer to my Beloved M-9 and 1911s, especially now that the Mag button issue is no longer a problem!
To me, the P80 makes a Glock feel more like a M&P with a better fit to large hands!

@Ura-Ki Well, all be damn... I guess I have corrected all of those without even thinking about it but you're right on every point.

I have replaced the magazine release button on each of my Glocks ( 2 ea. G19s and 1 ea. G43). I also stippled my main carry ( a custom job) which wasn't cheap to do but this was before other companies were offering these and since I have small hands I wasn't getting the grip I needed. Added an extended slide lock, extended slide stop lever again due to smallish hands and a heavy tungsten guide rod which improved my shot placements.

Here's a photo, not very good one, which shows the stipple job on my carry and it has the biggest mag release button of all three which I have become very fond of and notice that the trigger guard has been rounded.

I will have to look into these P80 frames as seems it solves all the problems at once. You are a wealth of knowledge, sir! Thanks! Which of the 80% builds that use the P80 frame do you recommend? I will keep note of the 'recoilweb.com', reading it now...also looking at the Polymer80 website...

    Glock.

Curious if their G20frame could be used for a 10mm? Their website says it's OK for a 357 Sig, but doesn't list the 10. Is the G20 lower different for various calibers or the same?

Different, more meat in the barrel support area, thicker moulding all around, and it takes a propriety trigger assembly! Its super close to the .40 varients but just enough of a difference to cause head aches! Different slide, barrel, springs, ext! Hoping they do a 10mm full size (not a long slide) G-20!
I gotta plan for a MechTech upper that uses a P80 frame and 15 round Glock mags!

Dang! Hoping they support 10MM at some point! Comparing the P80 to the bona fide Glock I do like the P80 features!
