Ready Made Premium Slaw Dressing at grocery store costs about $4 for less than a pint.
You can make you own that matches those with 4 ingredients easy to keep on hand.
Those ingredients are; mayo, vinegar, and sweetener, celery seed.
Long ago my Mother's second husband amazed me with a homemade slaw dressing that I gave rave reviews. He walked over to his recipe box and pulled out a index card which was marked as coming from a James Beard cookbook. Ted often cooked for large family gatherings on holidays, and as such had many of his recipes marked as buy parts of the major ingredients. I merely modified his recipe using more healthy ingredients that are supposed to be better for you.
    .
My quantities make right at 2.5 cups ..... a good amount for a whole head of shredded cabbage.
    .
1.5 Cups of Kraft olive oil Mayo --- 3 parts
1/2 cup Raw Apple Cider Vinegar --- 1 part
1/2 cup Pure Raw Honey --- 1 part
1/2 teaspoon Celery Seed -------- basic recipe
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
options; 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper. my addition.
and or 1/2 Tablespoon ground dry Mustard, James Beard option which gives it a bit of a spicy kick.
    .
This recipe really is easy to make, and I am sure I am biased but it is Damn Tasty.
Please give it a try and see what you think.

I use the regular old Best Foods or Hellman's for you Easterners, good old table sugar and fresh lemon juice for the acidity...

I know, but at my age I really don't care. My wife says the same about my beer and alcohol consumption and I give her the same response.

    Sugar is the Devil!!

Try it Mikie. You will like it. You really should at least try it before you dismiss it completely.

Pretty much same recipe here but regular old cane sugar. Makes about 5X more at the same cost as the stuff like Kraft and only takes a couple minutes to beat it together.

Don't have to wait until Sunday Tac............... Went through 5 gallons of the slaw with yer recipe last night and just finished grinding up and mixing another 5 gallons for today! Had several folks coming back for seconds and 3rds of the slaw. Which has never happened before with any other dressing recipe! TO be honest I was getting tired of serving it and having to run into the trailer to get another gallon :) Good Stuff Thanks fer sharing the recipe! Got a special name for it? or Want Credit on the Menu Board for it? If I Jack someone else's recipe I usually put a Note of who's recipe it is on the board.

The only thing that beat Tac slaw dressing last night in volume sold was.............. No shame in placing second to the seasonal favorite :)

So now we have to start calling @tacmotusn 'chef tac?' and saying 'yes chef'? [touchdown][Moto]

@Thunder5Ranch nice job on giving credit to Tac and reviving this thread!

LOL , and that in it self is saying a lot. Something I ate away from home has given me severe growling guts and worse. Less said the better.
    .
However, all this attention for Colonel Ted's new and improved "Awesome Good Slaw Dressing" is free to all to claim as there own. I pass on recipes freely to all with no reservations. Thanks to all who tried it.

GOOD STUFF and is the new official SLaw Dressing for the T5R Chuck Wagon! 1273 Servings of it went out as sides with meals, many folks stating that they had heard from other customers how great the slaw was. 178 unprovoked compliments from folks coming back and stating how great the slaw was. 500 give or take positive responses as to how folks like the new slaw. 3 People said it sucked but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion even if they are wrong :) Personally the Lemon Pepper puts it over the top with a little extra wang and tang and is distinctive enough to get yer attention but not be over the top. Hey I always give recipe credit to those I obtained it from, far too many folks claim other folks work, ideas and recipes as their own, not something I participate in :) Been calling "Skeeter Sailors Slaw Delight" :)

Cost effective as well. Gallon of Mayo $4 Jar of Honey $3.00 (Whole sale from my local honey vendor), Vinegar per gallon of dressing .42 cents Lemon Pepper per gallon .18cents celery seed .32 cents = $7.92 per gallon. A gallon trashy tasting generic $11.99 and a gallon of not much better tasting Kraft $15.84 (Wholesale prices) 1 gallon to 20 pounds of cabbage = 100 servings at .08 cents per serving............

I love the name. I might have to fill you in on the Mosquito Fleet of the Civil War ...... It's not unlike Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox of the Revolution. I am so glad the dressing has been a hit for you. You have me grinning from ear to ear!

That is delicious looking and so cheap. Not many places you can get home- style food for $4.

I think that is a great name for the slaw. @tacmotusn has given me recipes that have become family favorites. He is a good cook.
