More a matter of luck as most Cougars around here are killed by Deer Hunters.
Always have my EDC and now it's also 12 Gauge and #4 High Brass at the front door and with me while outside.
This one may be a female with cubs since it has stayed around and taken easy prey.
    No cattle hits yet.

The LDWF here just traps a nuisance cat in one area and hauls it off to be a nuisance in another area....

@HK_User if you get her, are you going to eat it? I would think the game warden would try to trap because of the cubs.

Cubs are just as dangerous later in life.
Cougars KILL, what ever they need to eat.

I was just watching the new kitten on the front porch, mama cat had already taught him turn over any bit of wind blown material, looking for bugs.

Imagine a 100 lb cub and maybe 4 going across your land.

Last year a Fox had her kits out for a late morning romp. The were spread out in a line and well adapted to kill anything they came across.
Had they come across or cat and her kittens (yes our Barn Cat has her kittens wherever she decides.) then we would be catless.

OBTW, Cat had 6 babies, only one survived.

Something found her nest and soon only one nipple showed use.

They come into town for the cat and dog snacks we have. One street over from me has had them on security cameras. Javelina also.

Texas is the only U.S. state with a viable population of cougars that does not protect that population in some way. In Texas, cougars are listed as nuisance wildlife and any person holding a hunting or a trapping permit can kill a cougar regardless of the season, number killed, sex or age of the animal.[134] Killed animals are not required to be reported to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Conservation work in Texas is the effort of a non-profit organization, Balanced Ecology Inc. (BEI) as part of their Texas Mountain Lion Conservation Project.[135] Cougars are generally hunted with packs of dogs until the animal is "treed," after which the hunter shoots the cat from the tree at close range.

Mountain lions are native to Texas and classified as nongame species. ... If you have a verifiable sighting or kill a mountain lion please contact your local biologist or game warden or call Texas Parks and Wildlife headquarters at 1-800-792-1112.

In short they are not endangered and they do more harm than good.

I use the injured rabbit squealer mouth piece and get too may Yotes!

One boom and the days hunt is about over.

Best I do is to still hunt at night and use a 300AAC with laser and light.

Right now I don't plan on calling Anything in here.

I doubt I'd eat a Cougar since it is a predator and could well have many parasites I could not identify.
