I am a bad man I just shoot them from the side door of the cabin or from the porch. Deer super highway, the cabin is 100' to the left of the driveway. Second beam of light is the drive up to the cabin and they 50/50 keep going down the main drive or hang a right and walk right beside the cabin. Most of my shots are at about 25 feet. Screw hiding in trees and pretending to be great white hunter :)

I usually hunt in a old earth tone flannel shirt and Carhartt pants / old blue jeans....If I am using a "modern firearm"...I'll wear hunter orange as it is what is required , where I live and hunt...
This works for me ....Can't speak for others.

In any case ...in my experience deer and other critters seem to "see" movement better , than being still ...and hear / smell better than they see.
So when hunting I take care to mind the wind and move slow and in irregular , as in no pattern to my movements...as I said this works for me...can't say for others.

......exactly, movement and scent are the most influential factors when hunting deer (being doing it for about 36yrs now- most would say pretty successfully)....most camouflage is to catch hunters (like fishing lures catch fishermen). I swear I would be able to happily hunt in one of my many Hawaiian shirts and do as well.

I like green carhart pants dark breen hoody.. Hate noisy cloths! Had a young buck stand and stare at me for near ten minutes out in the open trying to figure out what I was.. I did not move during that time. Pretty funny at the time. He would look away and quickly look back trying to catch me!
Silly youngster! I am an old man with lots of patience..

Knowing how deer (audio / visual / olfactory) perception works, is helpful to hunters in applying tactics to place themselves in the right position for making a killing shot. If that can be achieved by wearing a Hawaiian shirt [IMG]and rainbow happy pants [IMG] then have at it! ;)

    Aye.
I'm lazy as well. Sitting in my chair on the south porch I can use the railing as the front rest. Really don't even need to put down my beverage. They like to traverse along the woodline roughly 50 yards off. Last one in the fall the wife was in the hot tub 30 feet off to the left when I dropped him. She looked like a sub launched missile the way she came out of the water. Venison rouladen that evening made things better...

I read a story where a guy made fun of all the fancy expensive camo. Basically what I got from the article was that green and brown were good colors and deer were more likely to see your outline. So something that breaks up your outline is needed. Like a mild gilly suit. Then again lots of old timers just wear blue jeans. For the posts above it must be nice to shoot deer off your porch! I talked to a fellow at his farm and he had an elevated chair by his cornfield and he had no problems finding deer to shoot.

The boom of a .12 gauge slug gun at first light really puts the wife in a good mood fer the rest of the day. Side door of the cabin is right next to the bedroom LOL. Just roll the desk chair 3 feet to the left and shoot. Finish reading whatever I was reading and drag the meat to hanging skinning room to dress and hang a bit. Cough after putting the tag on it and taking it down the road to the Check Station of course :)

Maroon and grey plaid shirt and old jeans always worked fine for me when I was younger and thought climbing trees and freezing was fun :)

The farmer to my south, across a creek, has a number of these elevated hunting chairs along the north hedgerow of a 600 acre field. He rotates corn, soy, and winter wheat The deer like all of them. The chairs have been there long enough that they are virtually invisible unless you know what you're looking for, and provide a clear view out to about 600 yards. A couple pics of one I helped do some repair on after a tree came down on it.

The Tag is part of your Permit that is applied to the Deer carcass, once a Deer is killed in IL. Guess they got more modern and you can call to check the deer now Hunting Of course like everything else in IL. hunting, fishing and trapping is regulated to death. And of course so many fees..............

Sounds like a lot of time and effort that could be better spent doing something else...like checking on the moonshine still or watering your pot plantation.;) Not that I have or know of such things! Just an example..
