Father's Day is this Sunday. Dadisms are those one-liners that Dad said over and over, you knew what he was going to say it before he said it. Those sayings were often wisdom wrapped in a phrase. Many of you are Dads yourself and have your own Dadisms or adopted your Fathers or Grandfathers phrase. What are your favorite Dadisms?

My Dad was a man of few words as many Dads are. He was a mechanic. I would tell him the car smells, the car is making noise, hard to start..... he always responded, "Drive it". I have heard him say that phrase to others, all my life. I look back now and realize he was telling me not to worry about the minor things, don't anticipate the problem because if there is a true issue, we will know soon.

If you can still go forward...... drive it!

What were you thinking boy? Came from my Grandfather and my Father. And I caught myself using it. With my boys it was often. Trying to answer them just wound up me getting "that look"

HA, this could go on for weeks!

Gramps always used to say " A Smart Feller would.............." followed by what ever advice he was passing out.
Us Grand Sons always turned it around on him and would say " A Fart Smeller would..........." That always got a chuckle out of him!
My Brothers, Cousins, and I stole that from Gramps and use it all the time, and now my sons use it and by brothers little ones started using it too! It warms my heart to here the 5 year old say "A Fart Smeller would.............." while my Bro turns red, and we share that shit eatin grin all brothers share!

Engrish has always been a second or third language in our family, and Gramps would often start out in one language and then switch mid sentence on ya and then get mad if you didn't keep up! Made for some fun conversations, especially if he got a good Mad going, he usually started out in German ( which is the best language to curse in, BTW) and then switch to Russian and continue on, and would get especially mad if you stopped him and demanded English to continue your chewing out! I sure do miss him!

My dad was a professional athlete, HS coach, ref, etc. He’d say, “If you can’t be a jock, at least be an athletic supporter.”

I was making some pretty good bucks when I was a kid and had bought a 64 vette. My Dad and I tweaked that little small-block constantly, it was a fun car and about the fastest thing in Madison County, at least that would stay on the road. Dad only had two rules about high-performance automobiles. One was that it was your responsibility, no margin for error, the other was that if he found out you were drinking and driving, consequences were final, see rule number one. Unfortunately, I gave Jimmy Lee a ride home from work one evening, he drank a Bud tall-boy and threw the empty behind my seat. A few nights later, I had driven our band's van to a show, got in around 3:00 in the morning. Dad was sitting at the table with an empty beer in front of him, my vette was gone. Didn't matter that I thought beer should be poured back into the horse, didn't matter that I didn't even drink it. Rules are rules. To this day, I still don't enjoy beer.
