I have been thinking about this for awhile now. The thing that brought me in to another board, where I met Melbo and some of the others who started this site, was a raffle for a rifle. Someone posted a link on a site that I visited occasionally. This other site was holding a raffle to celebrate their 1000th member. Bears generous donation to support the site, and to help out Melbo who has givien us this home, inspired me to go ahead and offer this. And it may help to bring in more members too. I am offering up for raffle an Olympic Arms AR-15 rifle, .223, post ban configuration, with muzzle break. And a Polish AK-47 parts kit, with tritium night sites. All proceeds go to Melbo. I will be home in a few days and post some pics. I will leave it up for discussion for a few days as to how you all would like to do this. I had thought about having a first and second place winner. But I would have to sell more chances and for more $$. Or I can do each seperately. What do you all think? Let me know and we will officially launch the raffle later in the week. We raffled off some knives before here and IIRC there was a program that would randomly select a number that we used to pick the winner. We will use that system. I will have to figure out how many chances will be needed. But I would like to keep the price down around $20 or less. I'll post pics and more details in a few days. MM
Sounds like a cool deal. I would think do them seperate, aside from anything else peopel may just be interested in one or the other (AR vs AK thing).
I'm just a newbie here, but I would definitely be interested in taking part... Separate may yield the best results.
Cool. You ought to talk to Sniper-66 about that AK kit mm... His smith told him he'd never seen an un fired bore before. That thing is mint. You all remember the Valkman and CousinJack threads where they posted spots for a knife? Lets do this the same way. Minuteman can determine the amount of spots based on the amount he feels it should bring. $20 a spot on the Oly seems good. Less on the AK kit? $5? MMs call. I think it's a great idea and once the drawing got going, we could all tell our friends and also gain a bit of traffic for the site?
I just don't have time to invest in getting it built (the AK) and it's one more caliber to stock up on. I would like to see the two raffles combined bring in $1000. I think that is less than what they are worth. With over 800 members I don't think that's unrealistic. And again, ALL proceeds go to support the site and to help Melbo(who gave us this site) out during some rough times. I was thinking 50 chances at $20 each. You specify which raffle you want in. As soon as all the spots are taken we hold the drawing among those who wanted the rifle and then for those who want the AK kit. That way no matter how many are in on either raffle it will lessen the odds. I am afraid that we will fill the chances for the rifle and then not have that many for the kit. This way it doesn't matter. 50 chances and then we draw. If only one person wants the kit then they are the automatic winner. Opinions?
Well, hopefuly there are still a few slots left open around the end of the month, sounds like a great deal to get in on.
I just got home last night. I'll get the camera out today and get some pics posted and get the thread started. This is for a good cause so the $20 is a recommended donation. More is always welcome. If you can't afford the full $20 or need an IOU, make arrangements with Melbo. When he tells me that he's satisfied, and all 50 slots are filled we'll hold the drawing. All donations should be sent to admin@survivalmonkey.com you can use the donate button on the top of the main page. Or contact Melbo for alternate payment methods. Remember that this is a good way to bring in new members so spread the word. Good Luck!!!!
WHat do you think about having 50 slots @ $20 with 1st and second place drawings? First for Rifle and second for kit? Just a thought. I'd rather they just clicked on the donate link at the top for the slots. It shows as "Monkey Gift"

I'm good with that. I'll get those pics up ASAP. Been gone 3 weeks. Lots of honey-do's to catch up on.
