What happened yesterday? With little media coverage two Republicans won special elections in North Carolina's 3rd and 9th Congressional districts. Referendum on Trump? Blue wave?
Sites on the right are, sights on the left are not. Any sites on the left that do cover it carry water by making sure you know that the wins don't mean anything. In, fact, they will assure you that the wins were a referendum against Trump! Had the elections gone the other way then coverage would have been reversed.
Don't get too excited, HD, these aren't swinging seats, they are Republican leaning districts, so Republicans being elected to them ought not be such a surprising shock... Live results: North Carolina elections The Republicans won the 3rd Congressional district by a substantial margin (This district has been in Republican hands since 1994), but in the 9th Congressional district (held by the Republican Party since 1963) the result was close (2% the difference): Perhaps that even with the taint of alleged Republican electoral fraud in the 2018 midterms, the Republican candidate managed to just squeak through. Oh dear...Republicans involved in the dirty business of electoral fraud...how could that be??? I thought only the 'Demoncraps' did that kind of thing??? So, no, these aren't swinging marginal bellwether BELLWETHER | meaning in the Cambridge English Dictionary districts In summary: These two special elections aren't referenda on TRump, nor any indication of a TRumpelstiltskinian 'RED WAVE!' It's Hard To Miss The Historical Weirdness Of Trump Embracing A 'Red' Wave
One pub won a mostly Black district. Thin margin? Yes. A win - also yes. This despite the Dems dumping 8 million in just that district - and the D party was campaigning for over 2 years.... The other race was a lot more one-sided - almost 80% for the (R) party. The mass media polls was calling it a (R) defeat - a route even. "The Polls" said so..... So, ya, Trump will likely kick ass in the Nationals....
@chelloveck, if you'd been listening to the radio in Eastern North Carolina since Congressman for life Walter Jones died you might see the bigger picture. The 3rd District was not an easy win. It could've gone either way. If you'd been listening to the local NPR station since February you'd understand. All elections are local.
I have no doubt that Congressional district special elections have their own picayune parochial aspects to the contest...probably more so, than in general elections. 3rd District Picks A Republican, Plus Budget Blues and Gerrymandering Challenge WUNCPolitics Podcast: An Ear On Elections Yes, listening to local public radio, knowing that GOP women candidates got rolled in favour of a man in the GOP primaries for the 3rd District special election was very informative.
I'm impressed Chello. Did you hear her commercials? She bagged a deer, shot her limit of doves, and delivered her second child all on the same day. Sounded like she hunts over bait, and that spot alone may have lost her more votes than anything else she had to say.
It seems that just about every Republican candidate (male and female) plays on the good ol' boy voter's 3 'G's god, gunz and game huntin' when sucking up for redneck votes....every true republican gal™ should know that her place is in the kitchen, plucking, skinning, gutting and cooking her man's huntin' kills, instead of foolishly runnin' fer office....what were those gals thinkin'??? I notice also that one of those male candidates proudly revealed that he was running for office in the electorate that he registered his first gun. LMFAO....shades of Roy Moore
No idea what you're talking about. We don't register firearms here. Got a reference? I can't find the statement. I do agree with you on the female candidates running on their hunting skills. Most honest dove hunters I know are happy to hit one dove per box of shells. You don't suppose all the folks on the dove field contributed their birds to get her to the magic 15 so they didn't have to go home with one or two?
It was a sound bite by a male GOP primary candidate on one of the WUNC podcasts WUNCPolitics Podcast: An Ear On Elections 3:27 secs.... I stand corrected...the unidentified candidate said "purchased", not registered. Though still...it's a 2A dog whistle to GOP registered voters. There's another 2A whistler, though it's a pitiful looking gal's pistol to be sure.
I wouldn't want to be shot by a 2.7mm Kolibri either... But as a wannabe right wing, conservative politician in America, I wouldn't be waving it around at an election promo, using it to garner 'gun cred' either.
