OK help me out here... not sure where it belongs... cause IMHO it could be consider part of the human secularist religion or about politics... so?

So... when will enough be enough...

    IMHO...

NEVER... it"s not about education... not anymore...

it's about control... it's about brain washing... it's about endoctrination...

the more the masses listen and do as their told... the better for those in power...

IMHO those people hired to teach at these schools need to be removed/fired/disqualified... and replaced with someone NOT so concerned with PC BS... anyways here is the article...

Some may regard mathematics as a last bastion of academics immune to political correctness, or "wokeness," as some prefer.

But an advisory committee wants to warn students in Seattle Public Schools that they have been victims of a racist system that has used math as a tool of oppression, reports Jason Rantz, an afternoon host on KTTH radio in Seattle.

The novel approach to the discipline comes from a preliminary "Math Ethnic Studies Framework" produced by an Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee under the Seattle Public Schools superintendent.

The proposal laments that "western" math has been viewed as the only "legitimate expression" of math identity. It's been used to "disenfranchise people and communities of color" and, consequently, it "erases the historical contributions of people and communities of color."

It wonders, "Who gets to say if an answer is right?"

The premise is that math has been manipulated to allow inequality and oppression to persist.

"Who is doing the oppressing?" the proposal asks.

Rantz comments: "Ironically, if you subscribe to this social justice world view of math, and teach anyone that there's no such thing as correct answers, you will be doing immeasurable and, yes, oppressive, harm to students."

He points out the companion U.S. History Ethnic Studies Framework declares "the United States government was founded on racist intellectual premises and economic practices that institutionalized oppression of people of color that continues to the present day."

Seattle Public Schools responded to Rantz's request for comment.

"The ESAC is made up of a number of educators and was created due to a legislature mandate to 'advise, assist, and make recommendations to the office of the superintendent of public instruction regarding the identification of ethnic studies materials," the district said in a statement.

Depends where they got their engineering qualifications and professional credentials from; and their track record in civil engineering design of other bridges. Trump University, Prager U or some other dodgy diploma mill??? no way!

They are essential elements of a person's religious education as well...it's a pity that the same dudgeon isn't as heartily directed in that direction also.

Probably neither the Faith and Religion sub -forum, nor the Politics sub-forum...but possibly The Inferno forum, where culture wars argy-bargy can be indulged in for the entertainment of SM members (particularly for the angry get-off-my-lawn, the-world-is-going-to -hell-in-a-hand basket- brigade), without alarming 'progressive' non members overly much. I am not sure why secular humanists are being drawn into this rant...it is quite likely that the designers of the quoted curriculum document were probably nominal Christians of some stripe, or Nones 'Nones' now as big as evangelicals, Catholics in the US than secular humanists.

I guess there is a never ending supply of this culture wars stuff being purveyed by Wingnut Daily News and similar conservative digital rags...there is a never ending supply of material to be alarmed and snow flaked about. Get used to being triggered.

Yes, that is why the POTUS is sounding more and more like an Imperator...he would just love it if the masses would do as he would tell them to do. Luckily for the USA, some are capable of thinking for themselves, and acting in accordance with the Constitution, instead of Presidential fiat.

I think you are judging, sentencing and shooting the wrong group of people. Your ire should be directed at those who designed and authorised the curriculum...

I hope you are equally critical as of RWPC BS (Right Wing Politically Correct Bull Sh*t)...there is a seemingly never ending supply of that also. :ROFLMAO:

    Racist Math!?

Then tell me why we use Muslim Math symbols aka Arabic?

Then again who invented the Zero and Algebra?
For those who must be spoon feed I present this.

"Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi was a 9th-century Muslim mathematician and astronomer. He is known as the "father of algebra", a word derived from the title of his book, Kitab al-Jabr. His pioneering work offered practical answers for land distribution, rules on inheritance and distributing salaries."

Socialist schools stop teaching facts after the second grade.

But that is too much to ask of leftist who always want to be the victim and do not understand what Teachers Unions run the schools, not the administrators.

Ahh must be so nice to be so blind and unaware of how the world really runs.

Mmmm -- And all this time, I was thinking that Euler and Newton came up with that branch of arithmetic --- Algebra, on the other hand, gave me fits, and I think somewhere in the back of my mind, I had to know that came out of muzzieland.

I am going to get my crystal ball out and make a prediction that I don't think is too far in the future.

I predict, sooner rather than later, computers will replace teachers in the class room. Why? The simple reason is economics, a huge cost saver, and also parents are now seeing how teachers can be a threat to their children in numerous ways from sexual predator to propaganda or even prejudices, favoritism, impartiality, objectivity...actually in many, many ways. Think about. Universities now offer online degrees. The next step is to put them into the classroom. It resolves numerous problems to include the problem of trying to get highly skilled teachers but only able to offer low pay. You can't take the human teacher, actually more like a human Administrator, out of the equation but the majority of the workload is accomplished by the Computerized Classroom. One other side benefit is Security as a Computer could react much quicker than a human in a crisis: directly calling Emergency Services, securing the classroom, raising the alarm...responding faster and without emotion or error.

Computers will also replace doctors in the near future. Human doctors will not be taken out of the mix but for initial diagnosis and day-to-day GP type work - computers. It will lower the work load of human doctors, should lower the cost, and their diagnosis should be more accurate and much quicker with instant access to thousands of databases. I recently read about a project to do exactly this.

I realize that most here will not agree with me but take a moment and just think about...it resolves a lot of the problems of today.

I'm against it for one reason.

It will have to have a Matrix to define grades and teaching with little or no flexible control.

We already see a major failure with "Teaching to a Test".

IMHO this combined with the power outages and such is prep for the future...

of our new form of government...

pretty sure the people in kali will continue to vote in more such pols...

the voting system there is designed to keep one party in power...

Getting rid of a lot of teachers will lighten the high cost of union teacher's pay and retirement costs.

Not a big deal in Texas but in the NE I have heard it's a huge problem.

    "A Matrix to define grades..."
I fail to understand your point concerning this. Are you say you prefer a Bell Curve? My idea of a 'matrix' is simply a specific percentage of correct answers equals a specific grade so not sure what you are saying here but I am listening.

"and teaching with little or no flexible control."
Again, I am a bit fuzzing on what you mean here but hmm...not really... For example, a computer could easily allow make up of a missing homework assignment however miss deadlines two times in a row and you suffer the consequences, pretty straight forward. Black or White, Go or No-Go, and the same for Josephine and/or Johnny. Many of the problems we are seeing coming from radical teachers/professors where they influence the student with their own particular brand of XYZ be it history, society, government or etc. In this regards, you are correct, the personal 'flexible' control would be eliminated. The student is there to learn a specific academic to a specific level of expertise - not anything else. As for flexibility in other areas such as I pointed out with Homework, I don't see it as a problem. Anyway, I am curious so please elaborate a bit...

"We already see a major failure with "Teaching to a Test""
Yes, this is totally wrong but this is based on a teaching policy not a computer, totally different, apples and oranges. Computerized instruction can be much better than most human teachers and certainly doesn't have to 'teach a test' to be successful. Hell, most teachers are simply lousy teachers! It's not they don't know the material just that they cannot teach the material in a manner so most students/people understand it.

Being a some what recent Grad of a A&M system university I selected as many On Line courses as I could to fit my Major of Industrial Technology.

The best fits were some Majors that required Research and some Elective online courses that had testing online and study from printed matter. Either way having a Prof to call, email or meet with is/was a requirement to me.

Other classes clearly required feed back in class and at times clarification.

There were a couple classes in my Major which involved software implementation and others that required "Product Change" instantly. In computer systems class we were required hands on for PC repair and upgrade and all that can involve in repair and upkeep.

Labs were yet another set up and if I remember I had about 10 Lab Connected to a Class.

    "Bandit99
The student is there to learn a specific academic to a specific level of expertise - not anything else."

Not in my book, learning is more than just numbers on a page. It should be a give and take between student to student and student to Prof, other wise it is just dry sand and cement with no water. It is the place an understanding of team work begins and questions can be answered before the problem or product is in trouble in the field or plant floor.

In short I enjoyed what I learned and how. I hope we'll never see a computer only system.

Then there was the REAL toughie, Volcanology Elective in Hawaii!!!
And EMS/EMT with Climbing in Colorado's 14 teeeners area of Sawatch Range.

Yup on line is good in about 25% of classes.

EDIT>>It will have to have a Matrix to define grades and teaching with little or no flexible control.
In this I refer to a matrix system as a rigid class that does not allow class discussions. Grades are what you earn, all students start out with an A and go down hill in how they study and complete assigned work..
