This to provide some perspective that what I would like to discuss is not new - merely (now) endemic....

    Now then -

First what this thread is not about
    Gerrymandering - Wikipedia

No, this is something very different, although most everyone here has likely thought of this and perhaps calls it something else.

Why today? Well, Ben over at Suspicious 0bservers, had this

at the 5:44 min mark, he brings this up owing to a set of papers recently published.

Information gerrymandering in social networks skews collective decision-making

Not a fan of Nature - but they do, from time to time publish thought provoking materials....

Now - read the paper or watch Ben's piece. This will lead to the question seen so often of late

    Is CWII nearing???

While the pattern has been racial, U of SA, Rhodesia, tribal, much of Africa and South America, religious, Christian, Islam, India , Pakistan, Israel, much of the near east or sects, Catholic, Protestant, or Sunni , Shiite , one universal seems to exist, when compromise and communication fail, the situation often collapses into war, civil or other styles. In the past some have lasted for 100 years or so in western civilizations and one could argue that some are now 1500 years ongoing. I agree that one of the effects of gerrymandering is to control some function, population, religion, information, party membership, and deny any other view from having an effective input. We are close to that level now in many of our racial and social interactions. Lots of fancy words for the fact that if we can not get back to the older orders and interactions, we are scr**![deadhorse]

We have been sc***d since way before the war of northern aggression.. Propagandist do what they do to incite the passions of the population, directing them to the action the "they's" desire. Herd or flock, the live stock will be directed to the path they are intended to follow. That path is whetted with the blood of the gullible believers. Those that profit from the blood letting fear not their young will be in the kill zone and that they will have their hearts desires fulfilled.

Perhaps, the "They's" should think about history and just how terrible some revolutions can be.. French anyone?

I think the point Ben was trying to make is that much 'political discourse' today is shouting at "the other side". As I noted earlier, when the opposition is viewed - not as another citizen with a different point of view - but an enemy that must be destroyed, no compromise or consensus is possible.

"Divide and concur" is real, and the mass media is playing a major role in the unceasing Balkanization of the US population. Any more, it isn't US vs THEM, but US vs everyone..

Which brings up the music video I posted at the beginning - the lyrics are telling, even for 1967.

    There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
    Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's s time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound

    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, now, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

Interesting. I'm been giving a lot of thought to this myself later and come to the conclusion unless there is some 'outside' event (outside the USA) like a war to give us a common foe or even an alien invasion to give the world a common foe or cause or reason, something that would force us to come together - well - it ain't happening so see you in Civil War. I basically believe that the odds of Civil War are greater (probably cause by some sort of event, political or economically) than something that would brings us all together again.

Furthermore, let's face it, someone or something (TPTB) doesn't want to us to come together so they force feed this diversity BS when they know it doesn't work. Assimilation or compliance or conforming works. The beauty of 'old' America was just that, you could come from another country of different ethic background, culture and belief and you could keep them BUT you had to conform to want society expected and required but now...now the country is a mess, "nobody's right if everybody's wrong"

All far as 'For What It's Worth', I was a young child during that time framed and remember it well. The nation was split due to the war and when that ended all the other nonsense sort of fizzled out. But, yeah, the nation was totally and I do mean totally, split. In all honesty, now is a hell'va a lot worse... I think it can only end one way - I hope not - but logically there is no other solution. And, maybe The Powers That Be (TPTB) want it to happen...frankly, I am convince they do and whoever they are you can bet they are the ones pulling the strings of ALL the major media networks in the world. The only question is what are they waiting for or why are they waiting? That I don't understand...no a clue.

Article on polls used to drive public opinion rather than 'measure' opinion..
(How pressure to impeach Trump is created by fake news polls)

Much of the division is driven by money to make money - G. Soros is the lead character on this front. Don't forget that the Russian's boasted that "KGB support/ funding for the Black Panthers" was the best investment they'd made - Chicago is a hotbed of Communism for a reason.

The History of Russian Involvement in America's Race Wars
    EXTRACT -
According to a spate of recent reports, accounts tied to the St. Petersburg-based Internet Research Agency—a Russian “troll factory”— used social media and Google during the 2016 electoral campaign to deepen political and racial tensions in the United States. The trolls, according to an interview with the Russian TV network TV Rain, were directed to focus their tweets and comments on socially divisive issues, like guns. But another consistent theme has been Russian trolls focusing on issues of race. Some of the Russian ads placed on Facebook apparently targeted Ferguson and Baltimore, which were rocked by protests after police killings of unarmed black men; another showed a black woman firing a rifle. Other ads played on fears of illegal immigrants and Muslims, and groups like Black Lives Matter.

Except for the technology used, however, these tactics are not exactly new. They are natural outgrowths of a central component of covert influence campaigns, like the one Russia launched against the United States during the 2016 election: make discord louder; divide and conquer. “Covert influence campaigns don’t create divisions on the ground, they amplify divisions on the ground,” says Michael Hayden, who ran the NSA under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and then became CIA director. During the Cold War, the Kremlin similarly sought to plant fake news and foment discontent, but was limited by the low-tech methods available at the time. “Before, the Soviets would plant information in Indian papers and hope it would get picked up by our papers,” says John Sipher, who ran the CIA’s Russia desk during George W. Bush’s first term. The Soviets planted misinformation about the AIDS epidemic as a Pentagon creation, according to Sipher, as well as the very concept of a nuclear winter. “Now, because of the technology, you can jump right in,” Sipher says.
