Picture for attention.........#gunporn I have a close associate that has had a family member pass in the DFW area. The family is asking him to assist in liquidating around 400 or so firearms that are recent to vintage varieties back to WW1 and WW2 era's. Since I have no idea about Texas gun laws and means/methods for selling a large amount of firearms in that state, I thought of all our Texas Monkeys and their knowledge base. Looking for input and advice of possible Texas outfits that can liquidate weapons, purchase, auction and so on..... in a legal, proper manner. Any leads would be appreciated, that I can pass along to the family so they can further review options. As a side note, they are not looking to sell onesie-twosie to individual buyers at this time. I do not have a list nor pics of the collection. Thank you for any info in advance, YD
As an FFL, I can receive any FireArms, from any State, and then re- send them on to any FFL in the country, for the family... they just need to make the arrangements with the Receiver’s local FFL, AND IT CAN BE DONE... Legally... Alsothere are national Outfits that do this sort of thing, for folks and estates... Look in the back pages of any Gun Magazine, like “Shotgun News”
Any auction house worth it's keep can deal with that, either on consignment or on auction basis. Your LGS may be familiar with the various local auctioneers. In fact, the LGS MAY be large enough to handle the entire lot. Yes, an FFL will be needed.
Stay at least 100 miles away from the boarder. Check prices on gun broker for what you need to move might be able to get top dollar.
BT and ghrit are correct, shouldn't be an issue for a good FFL or auction house! With Auction's plan on a 30 to 40+% premium, but may be worth it in the long run! I usually end up paying a buyers premium at auctions, and that can be a bonus to the seller that will off set some of the premium the house takes! Man, to get my hands on a few odd ball Garands ( like IHC) or to dig through the M-1 Carbines for a rare one like a Saganaw, or Oldsmoble Signal and Lamp, or any legit pre 1957 M-1911's Might be worth a road trip!
I know you said they don't want to do a onesie sale but if they have a Colt Python for a good price, it has been my dream revolver to get since the 70's. If they have one and want to do something please PM me.
Don't know who you are talking about, rip off, but the local main auction place here charges 18% to sell and has your item on a live and online auction. I've sold some things with them and thought 18% was to high since they also get 10% from in house bidders and 18% from online ones.
Most estate auction/ clearence companies charge those percentages, and most firearms auction houses charge the buyers a premium usually a fixed % on per item depending on value/sold price! It's very common, something I have been around a while!
Might be large enough to be ok, in my limited experience in Mass and NH, about 50 % of the people with 5 to 10 firearms in the estate get screwed and are lucky to end up with 20 % of the value and a couple of auction houses went out of business and the heirs ended up with nothing. Hard part is a lot of the legal firearms dealers with shops have such high operating costs that they really can't give you over 50 % on a direct purchase or about 75 % on a consignment. Then very few people not into guns have any concept of the value of unusual firearms. Friend of mine has a Springfield 06 that was made for his grandfather who was in charge of the arsenal in WW1, no serial #, just his name and that it was made for him by the arsenal and presented to him for his effort in the war. Never would know how to value that one.
These folks are one of the best, if not the best select quality gun stores in Texas: Collectors Firearms (based in Houston, TX). Their store is more like a museum, and is worth the visit if one is ever in the Houston area. They can provide value estimates, or even make offers for some or all of the pieces within a collection, large or small. Whether you do business with them specifically, or contact them as a knowledge resource, they should be in your "quiver of arrows" toward finding a good home for some or all of those firearms.
