Have used N95 masks for dust, etc for years, have had best luck with those with an exhale valve. doesn't protect anyone else, but stay dry, glasses don't fog up, much easier to breath and cooler to wear. That said, learned long ago that with paint, ag chemicals, sand blasting etc, only a full face mask covering eyes as well and with the correct cartridges is anywhere close to being totally effective.
Personally, I wouldn't use anything other than a N95 unless I didn't have any other choice. That day has yet to come for myself. Any of the above choices are definitely better than the recommendation of a face covering. Not saying the other's won't work, it's just my preference to use something approved by NIOSH. Agreed, N95 masks with exhalation valve are more comfortable to wear. It's what we generally use in the construction industry for hazards that don't require a more stringent respiratory protection. Unfortunately, due to shortages in the supply chain some of us are using these longer than usual. I've got multiples that I change out after they sit for at least 1 week or expose to ultraviolet light. I haven't experimented with any of the cleaning methods yet. Don't put these in the microwave they have a metal band in the nose that you bend to form to your nose and there are staples holding the elastic. Wait a minute I shouldn't know anything about these, these only belong in the hands of a trained individual in the medical field and shouldn't be used outside of a hospital facility. I've been fit tested for numerous types of respirators over my career, ie.. P100 half mask, P100 full face, PAPR and supplied air. Never been fit tested on SCBA or SCUBA. Disclaimer: OSHA and the CDC doesn't recommend anybody reuse these types of masks. They're considered contaminated once used. To all the respirator Nazi's, I realize I'm using these at my own risk in this manner.

Thank you for your post. I'm lucky in that I bought 150 N-95 Masks a few years ago in case of a Nuclear Attack. I've recently bought about 50 face shields on Amazon My question for you is, I plan to reuse both the N-95 masks and the Face Shields, a minimum of after one month later and I assume that's fine. I don't clean them after I take them off but put them in a labeled large ipen box outside on my balcony,
I keep both in the car, the mask goes in the dash and the shield goes somewhere cooler. I accidentally left the shield in the dash and it melted. I have others. The shield still gets warm but far more comfortable than the mask. I think my beard has an effect. There are stores that allow no mask and those that require them so the shield is preferred.
