The NRA was originally formed to protect hunters rights and promote outdoor activities mostly made of urban hunters. Only in the recent years have they been thrown into to the arena of 2 nd amendment debates. Alot of them probably never owned an AR or semi- auto H/G. Maybe Ted Nugent can help them adapt as the govt is on a relentless agenda to disarm the public. That's why the GOA or JPFO have gotten so popular. They have had to many luncheons and parties with the elite, also.

The NRA is a sell out. They never have and never will recieve a dime from me. A couple of weeks ago they sent me a thing saying I need to join to protect my gun owner rights. I sent the form back to them stating as soon as they stop making deals and selling gun owners out I would send them some money. [beer] I would have loved to see the look on the persons face when they opened that.

OGM, come on my friend. When the NRA opens a letter from a surf, if it doesn't have green backs or a check in it, it goes in the composter. What makes you think they want to hear your opinion?

By the way, here is what I got in the an email from the NRA:

Fairfax, Va. - The United States Supreme Court today announced its decision to take up District of Columbia v. Heller-a case in which plaintiffs challenge the unconstitutional gun ban in the nation's capital. The District of Columbia appealed a lower court's ruling earlier this year affirming that the Second Amendment of the Constitution protects an individual right to keep and bear arms, and that the District's bans on handguns, carrying firearms within the home, and possession of loaded or operable firearms for self-defense violate that right.
The NRA will participate in this case through briefs as a friend of the court. Oral arguments are likely to take place in early 2008.
In March, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit held that "[T]he phrase 'the right of the people,' when read intratextually and in light of Supreme Court precedent, leads us to conclude that the right in question is individual." The D.C. Circuit also rejected the claim that the Second Amendment does not apply to the District of Columbia because D.C. is not a state.
The decision marks the first time a Second Amendment challenge to a firearm law has reached the Supreme Court since 1939.

Hell no they would just use it to have a gun melting party with the elite. Hearing that the NRA will be aiding the court in its decisions dose NOT give me a warm fuzzy. They supported the Veterans Disarmament Act after all not to mention all the lies they use to get money from people and other deals they have made. Remember all of the shows/ads they put out about how that Canada and Australia rounded up all guns in private ownership, wont allow any guns to be owned or used there and so on? It seems someone forgot to tell the folks there about it, while they DID get stupid about gun controle (same as our gov is trying to) I have spoken to to many folks who live in those countries and still hunt with leagale privately owned guns and one in particular bought his first gun this year. IIRC it was even after the NRA made all those claims that I went to Canada with a group and one of the guys (an American not Canadian) took a shotgun with him and the Canadian boarder patrole didnt have a problem with it. The NRA is in bed right along side the Brady campaign, they just play good cop to the bad cop to screw the same folks.

Relax guys this is really, really, old news. The NRA board member in question is actually one of the most highly decorated Texas Rangers in history. He is also a friend of my family, and I was raised with his youngest son Lance. His name is Juaquin Jackson. He later stated that he was speaking purely about hunting and not about what you should be allowed to keep. FWIW, I know Juaquin, and I know there is not anyone that would do more to fight for my rights.

EL, I have learned to respect you enouph that I could take your word for him or that interview BUT as far as the NRA as a whole, I have seen to many of their misdeeds to even begin to be able to blieve in them again and the majority of the misdeeds have been directly from them note quotes that could haave been twisted or spun.

It Maybe old news, but its still out there,I stumbled into it,I still don't think it helps. All anybody is gonna remember is nra says 5 is enough. I like bolts and the ocassional single shots, so its fine by me but its the principle.
Sorry if I insulted your friend .Decorated Texas ranger I'm sure he has more honor and integrity than most any10 random civilians rolled into one.

I agree, it is a public relations nightmare. If I didn't know the man personally, I would be leading the mob to Frankenstein's castle. Joaquin was doing a tour for his book "One Ranger". Here is his clarification on youtube interveiw of a NRANews interview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAX9E-erB_w&feature=related Watch it, and do a little bit of research on the guy before you develope a opinion. He is a really good man. When I was growing up he was one of my heroes. He is the single most intimidating man I have ever known. An "ol school" type of lawman.

    http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalks/archives/jackson/bio.asp

[IMG] This week we reach out and touch -- and get touched by -- the long arm of the law in the person of the most famous Texas Ranger of the modern era -- a man whose grim visage and solid footing practically scream "take no prisoners" -- although, of course, in his nearly four decades as a peace officer, he took many.
Joaquin Jackson was born in Lamb County seventy years ago -- named by his father, a dry-land farmer, for a football player who had a good game that week. After high school, he thought about a life in the military but discovered he was too tall, at well over six feet, to be a fighter pilot. So instead, he became a state trooper, serving with the Department of Public Safety for nine years. In April 1966, at age 29, he joined the Rangers at a time when the problems we face today were but a gleam in someone's eye; it was a simpler world but no more safe in an old-fashioned way, and old-fashioned justice of the sort meted out by Jackson and his colleagues was exactly what Texas needed.
Not long his retirement in 1993, he appeared on the cover of TEXAS MONTHLY as an emblem of the institution's days gone by, and the image was so iconic that it took on a life of its own -- and Jackson became a celebrity: the face of the Rangers. During the last decade, he's parlayed that fame into a few consulting gigs with movie projects out in West Texas as well as a second career as a private investigator. And he's written a memoir, appropriately titled One Ranger, that is the fastest-selling book ever published by the University of Texas Press.

Thanks for the link, I posted it in the comments section of the original ambush interview, see if it gets moderated out (as I've already made one comment, don't know if they allow more than one).

Sometimes we in the gun community tend to have a habit of eating our own, without giving them time to explain.

Ranger Jackson is like a giant granddad, albeit one big scary as hell granddad. I can hear my granddad telling me like it was yesterday not to waste bullets, and that you only needed one shot. I tend to think that was his mindset, how it relates to hunting. Keep in mind this ranger has been in more than a few shootouts with the bad guys, and quite a few high profile cases. He did after all work the border for many years. His youngest son is now in the B.P.

I'm willing to hear him out. But you got to admit that that clip was pretty incriminating. And I know how the media manipulates, but an NRA board member should know that very well and guard what they say at all times. But to err is human and I wouldn't hold it against him if it was a simple misrepresentation of his true position.

But if it was his true feelings, like Jim Zumbo, then like Dumbo he deserves the gun communities ire. There is a lot of disdain from the "hunting" and "law enforcement" community for our "military" weapons. And that has hindered and divided our fight against gun control laws for years.

United we stand, divided we fall. We cannot tolerate any disention in the ranks. We need a united front to safe guard ALL of our gun rights.
Acquisence to "reasonable" gun laws is appeasement, and history has showed many times that appeasement doesn't work.

Sorry Dude, but there ain't no mistaking that video out of context and he might be everybody's hero, been there and done that a thousand times but he is even more damaging than Zumbo ever thought of being to our rights as free Americans. Maybe he earned his opinion but it still sucks.
