Driver Tased For Asking Officer Why He Was Stopped
Man who refused to sign speeding ticket because he did not understand what it was is tased and arrested by officer who then refused to read him his rights

A man was tased and arrested on a Utah highway after being stopped by an officer and refusing to sign a speeding ticket because he did not understand what offence he had committed or why he had been pulled over.
The encounter, captured on the police car camera on September 14th and released this week, is the latest in a long string of incidents involving the unacceptable use of Tasers by officers on citizens whom the evidence reveals are in no way threatening, acting unlawfully or resisting co-operation.

The video shows the Utah Highway Patrolman pull over Jared Massey and his pregnant wife who also had their baby with them in the car and ask for Mr Massey's license.

Mr Massey tells the officer he does not understand why he has been stopped or what he is being charged with, at which point the officer orders Massey to get out of the car. The officer then puts down his clipboard and immediately takes out his Taser and points it at Mr Massey without any provocation whatsoever, yelling "Turn around and put your hands behind your back" as Massey attempts to point out the speed limit sign and engage the officer in conversation.

A shocked Massey asks "what the hell is wrong with you?" and backs away, turning around as the officer had demanded, at which point the officer unleashes 50,000 volts from the Taser into Massey's body, sending him screaming to the ground instantly and causing his wife to jump out of the car and yell hysterically for help.

    Watch the video:

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IMaMYL_shxc&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IMaMYL_shxc&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Lying face down on the ground a shell shocked, Mr Massey says "officer I don't know what you are doing, I don't know why you are doing what you are doing" to which the officer replies "I am placing you under arrest because you did not obey my instruction."

Mr Massey then once again asks the officer several times why he was stopped and what he is being charged with. He then asks for his rights to be read and points out that the officer cannot arrest him without doing this. Instead of reading Massey his rights the officer then addresses another patrolman who arrives on the scene sardonically commenting "Ohhh he took a ride with the Taser" to which the other officer answers "painful isn't it".

The icing on the cake comes at the end of the video when the officer LIES to his own colleague about the encounter, clearly stating that he verbally warned Massey he was going to tase him, as is the law, when there was no warning whatsoever.

Mr Massey is planning to file a lawsuit against the Utah Highway Patrol. He says he was already slowing down as he approached the 40 mile per hour sign in the construction zone outside of vernal. All charges except for the speeding ticket have been dropped.

This amazing video reveals how eroded civil and constitutional rights have now become. The officer had no legal right to make Massey sign any document he did not understand

Tasers are supposed to be the last response before lethal action, however, police now use them as if they are batons or pepper spray.

In the last year over 300 people have died in admitted cases in the US alone from being tased. In the last week alone we have posted three separate stories of Taser deaths. Every week we post stories of incidents, which often feature old women, children and disabled people as the victims. The weapons are even being used in schools.

The police are now trained that "pain compliance," a euphemism for torture, is acceptable in apprehending anyone even if that person poses no physical danger. If you electrify any person, they suffer extreme pain and stand a high chance of being killed.

Despite this, idiotic media hacks such as Fox News host Brian Kilmead are happy to promote police state tactics, selling the idea that protestors or people that merely question authority in any way are threatening and should be tased or "beaten to a pulp".

This phenomenon is out of control, how many more acts of wanton police brutality, torture and death by means of tasering are we to endure?

Taser use is being abused by police all over the country and beyond as cops are trained that torture is a perfectly acceptable response to somebody who acts out of the ordinary, asks the wrong question or refuses to show their papers.

I don't want them using batons or pepperspray like that either.

Let's face it.... cops have been out of control FOREVER... and it's only getting worse.

I am rather surprised that no one has filed a lawsuit against the company making the Taser for false advertising. Non-lethal when it has a history of killing people.

    for the cop:
    Guy argues over handing over his paperwork (cop asks several times);guy argues/refuses to sign ticket;
I Didn't know you could be arrested for not signing a ticket (a little some thing about self incrimination, signature admits you were there/driving).
    guy argues over speed signs;

    guy approaches the patrol car.
She jumps out(which doesn't add anything positive, just increases the tension)

"Painful isn't it" should be worth some bodies badge. They shouldn't getaway with making fun of inflicting pain..

I agree it is too easy to pull that trigger on a nonlethal...there should be some recrimination for each and every time a cop loses control of a situation(or fails to gain control diffusing a situation. and uses his taser. After all like a traffic accident both parties share some responsibility..Otherwise its too easy to jump from talking to the first step up the ladder of force.

In my mind he was not threatening enough to get tasered he just said "no" and asked "why ?" alot.

Our police departments used to be members of our community. They were respected because of their dedication to "protect and serve". I was taught as a child, to look to them for help in times of crisis. There was something comforting about knowing the police would always be there to protect you, if needed or to assist you when required. I wanted to become a policeman when I grew up. I wanted to help my community. By the time I became an adult, this desire had changed; police had changed. The race riots during the sixties and seventies created a barrier between police and their community but we could have survived this if the federal government had not gotten involved. The enforcement of laws rather than the protection of community was given priority. More laws were created to feed the need for more officers and agencies to enforce them and "Policeman" became LEO. Law enforcement officer has nothing to do with community and everything to do with the one thing fartherest away from home: goverment.
The federal government created a perpetual motion machine designed to keep us all in check, subservient. They militarized our community police departments and reinforced them with combat training; the problem with that is that you and I are the enemy. We are no longer the ones to be protected and served. They now serve a greater master. It is time.

If the man had a pacemaker or de-fib unit it could have killed him. He left him out past the white line, and he leaned over into his car. Big no-no's They are told that everybody lies. People are going to resist this more, not less. For every action... there is an opposite and equal reaction. This is getting critical to everyone's saftey and freedom. I used to respect the law. Not anymore. Now I prepare.

What else can you expect ? Bush has shown over and over again that you can lie your butt off, be a bully, vengefull and nothing happens. (WMD, afghanistan, iraq, valarie plame, no warrant wiretaps, etc, etc, etc) Therefore the republican base has taken the cues and act like they are above the law. (cunningham, janklow, wilkies, etc) Notice the more "republican" groups like law enforcement are out of control.

    Corrupt republicans ruin democracy http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_sara_sca_061026_corrupt_republicans_.htm

Christian conservatives deserve blame for corrupt republicans http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=18019

We as a country voted republicans into power. We as a country should just shut our traps and take our medicine that we asked for. We already knew what bush's were all about from the first bush president. We still stupidly wanted more, two more terms more. We got what we wanted so we all should just shut our traps till the second term is over. Then of course be bright enough to not vote republican ever again. If we did... dare I say we still want more of the same ?

The Four Injustices and the Regression of Government (Plato). The last one is tyrany. Read on and understand why we shouldn't be surprised why republicans are acting the way they do.
    *
    Tyranny
The excessive freedoms granted to the citizens of a democracy ultimately leads to a tyranny, the furthest regressed type of government. These freedoms divide the people into three socioeconomic classes: the dominating class, the capitalists and the common. Tensions between the dominating class and the capitalists causes the common to seek out protection of their democratic liberties. They invest all their power in their democratic demagogue, who, in turn, becomes corrupted by the power and becomes a tyrant with a small entourage of his supporters for protection and absolute control of his people.

Of course we all know Plato to be one of the greatest minds in the human race.

About 2 months ago, I personally witnessed a full fledged SWAT raid on a neighbor's apartment. 6 cops, with AR's and full tactical gear, broke in the door just before 6:00 am, IN SANTA BARBARA!!! You know, the Santa Barbara that used to have it's own soap opera. All this for a search warrant. Not even an arrest warrant, just a search. And if the cops were so worried about the guy shooting, why didn't they even ask me to leave? The whole time, I was fixing something on my van, 20 feet behind them.

I'm glad at least one other person sees it that way. I've been telling people for years that you can't blame Bush for being exactly what we already knew he was, before we elected him. I have no doubt he was the lesser of two evils. But I refuse to vote for evil.

On the original subject of this thread:
There's a painfully long thread on this video at War Rifles:

    http://www.warrifles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51342

One cop in particular is very enlightening as to how some in law enforcement see the rest of us. I tried to argue through his interminable habit of denying what he just wrote, then re-stating it in slightly different words. But when his arguments degraded to childish self-aggrandizement, I felt to dirty too continue.

To their credit, the majority of cops on that board seemed reasonable, and respectable. While I have my problems with the entire concept of professional law enforcement, I have no personal gripes with the vast majority of them. That said, it's nice to be back to a board where ALL of the LEO's are reasonable and respectable.[beer]

Hartage, buddy, sounds like you are very "democratic party" minded. The parties are two sides of the same coin. chosen and approved by the"owners" of this country( and that ain't you and me anymore pal).
    [boozingbuddies][/quote]

No I can't say I'm very democratic party minded either. I believe too much in pulling your own weight (otherwise known as a job). Of course I'm evil to most democrats because I believe in/own guns. I have always seen both sides (no matter which issue) have a good point that is worthy of consideration. I just hate it when people do things with good intentions but end up being more evil in the long run. When people start imposing on others is the greatest evil. Be it gun control or pro life/choice. We go wrong when we force the other side in the name of God, right, or any other excuse.

I do agree with you that the owners of this country isn't you and me anymore. It currently belongs to anybody that can afford the most media time. Translation, belongs to the rich. That needs to change.

Hartage.... man, you've got to go read the "who is Ron Paul" thread..... you would like him a LOT more than you realize.

You're an RP convert waiting to happen, you just got fed some bad press by the people that hate him (repubs and dems both).

I don't want to hijack the thread though.

I agree with Blackjack. You sound like exactly the kind of Ron Paul supporters I have met this last year. Many of them came to support him because they were sick and tired of the BS from both parties.

The fact that the republican party has been fighting him for years and trying to undermine him just tells me that he is not a prostitician.

I can answer yes to the Dept. of Corrections teaching it....Haven't the police departments always used some type of pain compliance (arm bar, baton, spray)?

Have you ever been hit with a taser or a stun-gun? It hurts like nothing you can describe. It will make you piss yourself. It shot-circuits the whole system. I call this TORTURE. We have sanctioned our "Protector Servants" to use Torture to restrain a person that by constitutional law is innocent until proven guilty. Am I the only one that has problems with this? WTF? Halt or I will torture you and make you squirm on the ground like a reptile while you piss yourself!
Remember that this may be your smart-ass teenager we're talking about getting zapped by these "Less than Lethal" objects. ANd if they die from it? They are a statistic, no matter.
Since everybody is so into torture, why don't we use tasers to zap convicted criminals, at least they did something that a jury said deserved some kind of punishment. Line them bastards up and zap em every single day to remind them that they should not rape women or rob banks or cheat on their taxes or own machineguns that they didn't pay taxes on. Bet if we used them on drunk drivers, it would have more effect than DUI arrests. And men who fall behind on child-support payments...zap em.
begging for money at a corner? you got it..bzzzzzzz
the possibilities are endless here. Sanctioned torture is the up and coming thing. Don't like how somebody votes? Move along now...nothing to see here....

I can see their use if the cops life is threatened, and say someone is coming at them with a knife or threating bodily harm to the LEO or someone eles. But just because they are not doing what they are told to do, no I don't think so.

This is what happens when you put people on a pedistal. They start believing it and act like they are above everybody else. Cops, doctors, lawyers, university professors, janitors except for a select few the reason for working is all the same. It is done for a paycheck. When they are glorified at some point they go bad.
