What if, next year congress is in sestion as is the supreme court. Bush and company fly down to the ranch for much needed rest. After he is a few hours out of DC the nuke that went missing goes off in DC. Taking out all of the congress criters and supreme court. Bush and company blame Iran or who ever. Bush now unleases his dicator laws and and the public want more. They rally behind him because after all we were attacted by (who ever). The Consitution is used to light a fire in the fireplace at the western white house. Martial law is the rule of the day. Don't like it, you get taser1 don't have your papers taser1 look the wrong way at a LEO taser1taser1 The draft is started up, all abled body men rounded up and are sent to fight...(who ever). The internet is shut down to limit the terroist ablitty to comunicate. Travel is restricked on a need to basis.

    What do you do???

I've been thinking about this for a while. To me it's something that could be done. I think that most Americans would ralley behind the President, which would make it that much easier for him to take over.

like minded individuals would eventually find each other and protest for relief, redress of grievances, release of all political prisoners, eventually after months of these legal actions falling on deaf unresponsive ears,IMHO: the frustration would lead to armed resistance.not because any one radical would call for it, it would just be inevitable. ( butter knives, bows and potato guns if necessary.

A completely unfamiliar infrastructure would be imposed(martial law), ( even congressman Defazio; cleared with a “need to know”) can’t get details on “the plan”. helps to keep the ”radicals off balance: One would need to take time to gather info in the unfamiliar infrastructure. What are the new laws? Who’s making decisions, who 's busting heads, who’s corruptible? ,What high value targets are exposed. What are the oppressors weaknesses.?
which barracks houses the midnight "knock on the door"squads. That gets put on the watch list..

Insolent “net rats” would probably just discuss civics; shackled and from under our hoods on the long flight to the fema camp inthe Alaska wilderness. (Reserved for gun owners,, anti bushites, “no fly list"ers and hard core “militia types”, finally people who bought pocket copies of the constitution or contributed to RP.)

1000 miles of harsh cold wilderness, no caches, or familiar local support. anywhere around.. Gives you a whole nother reason to learn what you can from Les Stroud and Bear Gryyls or primitive skills study and practice.,
How else would they be able to separate the most prepared and( threatening) citizens from their weapons and ammunition ?
Otherwise don’t bother escaping, just get on the yellow line pick up your tray and spoon, lunch line forms at 1100 in bldg “c“.

Would the oft mentioned “fully staffed (also handpicked) “shadow government” step up to power from mt weather, or Cheyenne mountain ,or from deep in the bowels of bldg 500 (sac HQ ) Offut afb Omaha Neb? Easy to talk about “grabbing your guns” but other than against the hs trooper quartered in your living room (temporarily for your safety during this time of “transition”) ..

This scenario has crossed my mind more than once. Personally, I don't think it could happen under Bush. I have my doubts about whether he's really hated more than previous presidents. But it's certainly socially acceptable, and even trendy, to spew venom toward him. There's a large contingent who will fight him for any and every reason, simply because he's Bush. The next president, whoever it is, will have a much better chance of pulling it off.

Me thinks you have already gotten a golden ticket to Alaska along with the rest of us... if not not today, wait until that "internet radicalization" study group bill passes. We can overpower the guards and all break out and huddle together like emperor penguins rotating in shifts to the warmer sheltered center of the group 'til spring when we can walk south to baja.:)
likeone of Minuteman's patriot buddies said "put me on a list I demand it!"never let it be said I shirked into the corner when liberty was at stake".Or something like that...[beer]

curious as to why the next pres has a better chance??

"Trendy to trash the pres" is right Thinking about that today my 16 year old daughters' young friends were quick to say " I hate bush," "yeah I hate him too!"
    "Why?"
    "oh the war and stuff."
    "the war in libya?
    "yeah"

important point: all able bodied men in a draft still has an age cut off something like 37..so plenty of hardy(if not slower) vets would still be home..

Here in California, that's how the 45 year olds talk.

That attitude right there is why I doubt it could happen under Bush. There are too many people who believe he's already working on it. And there are too many people who oppose anything and everything he does, purely because it's him. Currently, the far left is just as ready to revolt as any of us. And in all honesty, I'll gladly join them, if they do it. (Bush did say he was a uniter, didn't he?) My only demand would be that we split up the country when it's over. Those "Jesusland" maps that went around the internet a few years ago looked like a good idea to me.

If Bush does try to take over completely, I see his only workable option as the police state model. He'd need to openly assassinate anyone who opposes him, probably by the millions, to scare the sheeple into submission. His opportunity to do it with slight of hand is long gone. Now, it would take brute force.

I think the next president would meet far less resistance in OGM's scenario than Bush would. Bush started under the cloud of a disputed election, and one where both sides agree that he lost the popular vote. And even with that, his approval rating was in the mid 50's through summer of 2001. Unless we get a last minute run from Cheney or Gingrich, the next president won't start with both the negative baggage, and the overtly hostile press coverage, that Bush gets. Whoever it is will get 6 months to a year of leeway before the vitriol becomes trendy again.

I don't believe that Bush had anything to do with the World Trade Center coming down. But the timing WAS perfect. If the next president tries something like OGM postulates, July-October of 2009 is the right time. To be fair, that's also the time frame in which foreign powers will be testing the new president. But, of course, that's what we'll be told regardless of who does it.

I understand and somewhat agree with what you are saying. But, heres the thing. Talking about it is one thing getting people to sacrafice something is totally different. If their lives haven't changed that much will they sacrafice what they have??? I think no they won't. Ok yes there are travel restrictions, but bush garrentees this will only be temprary. The internet is down/restricted from persenal use, but again only temprary. People still have biils to pay, jobs to go to. Anyone that does rise up to fight will be publicly shown of as a terrorist and punished acourdingly. Therefore tighter restricktions are needed to stem the tide of home grown terrorist.

What would happen, we already know, the same thing that happened in Germany, in Russia, in China and in every nation where martial law ruled the land and the citizens had no rights, nothing would happen. You'll wake up and go to your job, if it's still assigned to you and continue as if nothing had changed. For those few that do decide they will act out and this will be a very minor percentage of the population, they will be re-educated or simply removed from society.
We can fantasize about our versions of "Red Dawn" and how we'd fight the oppressors but in the end we'd be footnotes spoken of once the regime came to its natural end.
Government isn't stupid, contrary to all appearances, they know as long as they keep the masses fed they can remain in power. Hard to start a revolution when the peasants have their bellies full.
Look at us, even now, we hide behind usernames because we want to be able to speak our mind but anonymously.

Why did I have to go and read this thread this late at night? As if I'm not tweek'n enough during the day! One of the local gun dealers thinks that a friend and I have started our own army at this point! One dealer and his staff, take bets on what my buddy is gonna buy and how much he is going to spend. Now you have to go and start a conversation, like I have with my buddy, at least 3-4 times a week. Now I have to go and get my tin foil hat on and load magazines for the rest of my night. Thanks a lot! At least I know it's not just me![gasmask]
