I was out at a couple of the local gunshops today and ran across a 4" barrel Taurus 627 Tracker .38 Special/.357 magnum. It had a pretty attractive price, $575. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with one of these and would be willing to share the info. I saw some other of the same caliber, but they were the pricey ones....S&W, Colt, etc. TIA

Also, the gun shop seemed to have a reasonable stock of 38 special ammo, CCI Blazer bronze case, 50 rounds for $30.

I've been poking around online and the Taurus price is about average, but no one has it in stock. The ammo price seems to be really good, again most places don't have .38 spl or .357 magnum in stock.

I'd be all over it. Taurus makes very good revolvers and they customer service has greatly improved. Can't speak for the model your looking at but the 3 Taurus revolvers I have all work just fine. Go for it.

The wife had a Taurus .357 years ago, I don't recall what model but she had no complaints about it.

I've owned a taurus .44 mag 4" for maybe 25 years and love it. It's a Stainless model, hits where you point it and never had any issues

Uncle has the same revolver but with a 6" barrel. I'd stack it up against the 686 anytime. Not a bad price and I honestly believe you'll be happy with it. Many gun purist poo poo the Taurus but I've never had a problem with them.

We have had both semi autos and wheel guns over the years, and never had any issues with any of them! If anything, I wish I had my old Raging Bull still, that was a shooter, and you didn't mind having it in a holster getting banged and scratched up! It was a good looking piece too, nicely balanced, and shot very well! Damn, wish I hadn't traded it off!

Forgot to add, got this fine little carbine for the wife as a back door gun, damn fun little shooter that actually works!

I'd add one more thing. Don't be skeered of a 4" barrel. I've made some great shots with a model 27 with a 4" barrel. You should hit what yer aiming at a lot longer distance than you might think possible with it.

madmax Far right. Bipolar. Veteran. Don't push me.

I have a Taurus Raging Bull .454 casull. Got it for grizzly discouragement in Alaska. Thankfully never needed it. No complaints at all.

I had the 692 which was basically the same gun but mine had a 3" bbl. and a 2nd cylinder in 9mm.

It shot great and was a stout little pistola. If you like the price, go for it.

I did a search for ammo......first I've done in a couple of years....and mostly, either none available or over $!/round!! Yikes! Even if I got one, I wouldn't be able to afford to fire it.

Glad to hear the positive feedback on Taurus here. Gun forums tend to trash them, but my single experience has been good.

I had a PT-99 for several years and except for two FTF's due to feeding when I was breaking it in was flawless. The PT-99 is a PT-92 with target sights, and the PT-92 is basically a Beretta 92 with a Colt style safety (sans grip portion) so you can carry it cocked and locked. The only reason it's gone is that the handle never fit my hand well. I thought it was just the suck I had to embrace for a double stack and then I handled a CZ-75...

I always figured when I move back into bear country I'd get another 44 mag or better revolver and the Taurus design is a lot like a Ruger Redhawk with the improved handle of the Super Redhawk with out all the bulk of a Super Redhawk. Good to know their beefier wheelguns have respect here.
