I got some leather yesterday and a clip and made a new holster since I couldnt find one I both liked and could afford and figured I would try to share a couple pics of it. Its a left handed IWB holster for the Bersa Firestorm (identical to the Thunder) 9mm UC.

Looks like a nice job! I like working with leather, but since I started making knives I never do it anymore.

Yup... its the "Mountain Man" version of the BOB... but by today's standards... smaller and probably, in the hands of the true mountain men", alot more useful....[beer]

Thanks. I still want to se about dyeing it then oil it up good but its a LOT more comfortable than the Uncle Mikes holster I used to have for my .380 and Im confident it will also not have the problem of hitting the mag release button like that one did.

I also got a bunch of darker leather thats a little lighter weight to make a purse for Tina for Christmas as she has a problem with her purses tearing up so I figure can make one that will be harder to tear up. lol

Mountain Men (according to my sources) never left shelter without it. Mostly had things like extra ball (bullets) flints (or caps) patches and a spot of bear grease for patch lube and a jag to pull bullets from the barrel in the event of something going awry with a load. Tinder and a striker were pretty common, even on short hunting forays, and always when on the move checking traps. And of course, some jerky or pemmican for snacking. No TP nor water bottles, tho' --

Yup... it had everything they needed to service their other item they never went anywhere without... Their rifle or firearm... as well as extra flint and steel and fire making.... a powderhorn was also included and carried... these guys were amazing...

Are you going to get a handbag kit from Tandy Leather Factory? Or are you going to make it from scratch? For as long as I can remember my father has been doing custom hand-tooled leather work. It's a dying art that definitely doesn't reap the financial gains from the amount of time that is involved. Back in the late 70's we went to flea markets to sell stuff and couldn't compete with the guys who mass produced stamped leather goods.

I can not count how many of my family members still have things he made over 20 yrs. ago. Except myself, one of the belts he made me only lasted 10 yrs. of continuous use. [booze]

ETA: holster looks good, keep up the good work.

Looks good, and I'm sure your wife will like the bag you make.

As far as selling hand made items, right now people don't really want to pay for hand made. My wife does gorgeous stichery work, but we can't sell it. She did a Last Supper scene and she'd have to charge at least $5000 to account for the number of hours she puts into the work. But get the right person that appreciates the work it takes to do hand made and they will buy.

I did the purse and holster both just from the leather he had and was willing to sell, basicly big scrap. I will try to post a pic of the purse later, the only thing left on it is to add a button closure o the flap. Its not tooled since I dont have any leather working tools, just used a sharpened nail (couldnt find my awl) and a mallet, a big needle and some siniew.
