Either the PTR91 or an AK, I'd feel "comfortable" either way.

Not dawg, but yep... That's the rifle I grew up shootin. Except mine was really old (octagon bbl, half pistol grip stock, no hooded front sight). In fact there's a pic of me in my gallery with it and some squirrels when I was a kid.

Mods might as well move this to the inferno now.
    dang it ogm!
"IMHO" (which never gives me license to trash another monkey, just the issues here.):)

Hartage You should be expending ammo , as you put it "only if absolutely needed"!. uh remember something about "lethal" force?, meaning you are shooting at people! When would you shoot at people without "absolutely needing it"??? Even if law and order break down human decency should preclude plinking people (killing) for fun?

You've just demonstrated the fallacy we spent pages on; arguing about Fargin' PAINTBALL!!("training" lol ) Where else can you expend hundreds of rounds at people twice a month, walk away, wash up, and go to lunch like nothing happened. Every month for "years" (?)
This is what got me wound up; additionally : keeping somebody tied up behind a tree with a C02 paint ball gun (phut-phut-phut-phut) is one thing .30 battle rifles shoot through trees, and concrete blocks. and cars etc..there s' a little more incentive to keep your head down and get outta' dodge! rant off...I'm done, and I don't feel good about it.

Here goes ( should I post this rant or not?):
    1) donning ballistic helmet ; 2)body armor;3) kevlar undershorts,; 4) earplugs).

For my thinking, the thread will stay here, another may take a different tack. (If so, it will be obvious.) But things have gone a mite off topic. What say we get back on track? From "what will you carry (and why)" it has gone to quibbling over relatively inconsequential arguments about one person's selections, those are probably based on individual circumstances anyway. If you disagree, no problem. If you agree, ditto. If your mind won't change, just leave it alone. Nobody is going to change anyone else's mind with repetition and criticism of the non constructive flavor.

Gonna keep this simple tango. I don't plan on shooting at anybody at all period. Unless of course I'm shot at first. In which case I simply back away. Returning fire is limited to prevention of my death if they pursue with the intent of killing me.

As to the amount of ammo it is just to prepare for worst case scenario. Which would be an environment with roving predatory armed groups.

Secondary reason. Ammo will be worth more than it's weight in gold when shtf. Can be used as effective currency.

If I end up wasting money by having too much ammo I'll be nothing but happy as that would mean a safer environement.

Lol, only if I could. That would have been sweet. I bet it would get lousy gas (or whatever fuel) mileage. I suspect though that the main gun on top would be a bit bigger than the .50 caliber or over limitation on civies.

Man I truly feel sorry for you people in urban areas and trying to survive a TEOFTWAWKI,
While you taking pot shots and getting pots shots shot at you,
I couldn't not imagine it in the inner urban areas during those times, you going to have people going door to door taking what they want. Gangland at its worst ever though possible.
All you have to do is look at some of the third world countries and the turmoil there and imagine it way worse here as we would be going back ward not in a forward motion like they have been for many years.

I agree and I think that my choices would be different if I lived in that type of area.

My feelings exactly. I cannot imagine trying to get out of LA, NY, Chicago, Houston, etc. when it goes down. You better be armed, and you better have a really low profile.

You don't even have to imagine or bother with 3rd world countries. Just remember what happened during katrina on our own shores. Hell COPS cut people down for doing nothing more than walking towards them seeking help. Those with guns did what they wanted period. Roving armed predatory groups were the norm not the exception. A widespread emergency (not just a localized flood like katrina levy break) would be absolute anarchy that would last months perhaps greater than a year.

But how quickly we seem to forget. We go back to our safe lives thinking another is an idiot for preparing for something that has already happened. I have my 1911 and stealth if need be. But 5k of ammo and long guns improve long term survivability.

Point taken, hell we don't even lock our front doors up here leaving the house for the days errands..You might want to consider relocating to a first world country :)

Yeah, I've been to your neck of the woods a few times. (mid west) The people seem nicer, heck even the cops act different. I'm not too fond of southern cal anymore even though I grew up around here. Most likely will move next couple of years. Just have to figure out where to first.
