what would be your 10 gear picks?. here's the list that you get to choose from. No guns, steel traps, very few fishhooks, only a very small amount of netting. No treblehooks, no barbed hooks, no lures but a dry fly, tied on-site. Only certain clothing items can be taken, too. the last man standing, out of 10, wins 1/2 million $ (before taxes and SS which take over 150k, btw)

I do watch the show, interesting the decisions that are made and the timing of those decisions. It will take some time to come up with my gear list as those items I would choose are prohibited!! :D

They video themselves. they have to submit 8 hours of video per day. they are stuck in a 2 km radius from their drop off points, So half of their "5 sq miles" of allotted area is on the lake, river or ocean. That isnt even 10% of the room that you need to forage. The past two seasons they've been very limited as to what large animals they can take, nothing but bear for season 9 and they were not allowed to trap bear or beaver.. Netting was limited to a dipnet, 5" mesh, way too large holes in the net. No fishing lures, no live bait, nothing but palm-sized trout to take. They have to crap into a bucket for weighing and possible analyzing of what they've been eating.

I'd take a slingbow, with 3 piece takedown arrows. I'd want 6 of those arrows to feature fluflu fletching and Zwickey judohead blunts. I'd want the snarewire, a shovel, a multitooll, a ration of pemmican and one of trail mix. Id want the 3 lb block of salt, the big roll of duct tape, a reflective 12x12 tarp, heavy duty one. I'd want a reflective Tyvek bivy. If I could not have the archery items as such, I'd make a composite bow on site and instead take the bar of soap. The bow has made a real difference only twice, out of 90 contestants. That's very low odds.

All those shows are fake, and while they sometimes have good ideas, it's usually a bad idea to try them!
I spent a lifetime living it for real, highly trained by the very best of the best, and I can tell ya, it ain't easy in the best of times, when it all goes to hell, your gonna be working your ass off to survive! Drop me anywhere on earth with my boots, a good fixed blade and 550 cord and I'll see you in three months on some tropical island drinking rum!

Our .GOV spends millions training our elite war fighters, in all the primitive, wilderness, village, town, and city, senerios… There is no school that can give that training, like BUDS, Brits SAS, Delta School, and the FARM, can…Folks who graduate from those schools, are the type of self-sufficient Patriots that the original Minutemen were… Like Marines.. “ Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

And with all that, I suspect you and I would become good friends if we were inside visiting range of each other… I was deemed 4F by the induction Military Doc, when I was called up, due to being allergic to Sulfa Drugs, as a child…. I always figured I would have made a decent WarDawg, as I was a decent Rifleman at 13, and shot Expert at 15… and hunted every fall until I left home for college in a different State.. After college my Partner and I lived in what is now the North Cascades National Park for two years, during my “Hippy Phase” … Those years taught me wilderness living skillsets, that then served me well for the 40+ years of living out in Bush Alaska that followed, after I meet and married AlaskaChick..

You and Alaska Chick can sit by my Fire any time!
BTW, I still shoot Expert/Distinguished Marksman with Rifle, and Expert in Pistol, and anything else I can get behind!
I am my own gunsmith, my own Mechanic, a master welder to include steam/boiler certifications, and general all round handy guy with primitive tools! I can still swim 2 ocean miles faster then many can run it on foot, and have 5330 jumps, with 335 HALO and 220 HAHO on 02! Only thing I don't have anymore is my Medics Level 1 Field Rating or Advanced Trauma Medicine Ratings!

All I have left is stored in my brain.. My physical being finally said your done, but the Brain Pan still works 100%. … and I haven’t had a Red Cross Advanced FirstAid card since i left a career as a Professional SkiPatrolman at age 22.. Loved that job, while I was in college.. Free Skiing, Room and Board, and learned avalanche control on the side..

I really miss my Sno-Cat days, nothing like watching the sun come up after a long nights work grooming the slopes, especially after one of those blizzard days that dumps mountains of snow in one day and you gotta move it all out of the wind rows and onto the slopes and then form it into safe runs! All the free snow boarding I could handle in the best powder ever! Even more fun was Winch Cat work, man, that's next level awesome hangin on the end of 1 1/2 miles of cable!
