So the Montana Secretary of State is agreeing to secession if the second amendment is ruled against by the Supreme Court. The most militia minded state in the union, and they thought they would stay if ya take their guns away?

<!-- / message --><!-- controls -->If Montana took concrete steps to seceed, I believe there are 3 others waiting to jump on that bandwagon (Vemont, Tenn, S.C.). I think this is a very dangerous time in this nations history, and it isnt because of "islamofascists" either.

Oh, and Texas can come too.[beer]

From the MT Sec of State:

    JOHNSON JOINS "HELLER" CHORUS

HELENA—Secretary of State Brad Johnson joined the many other Montanans who have weighed in on the DC v. Heller case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. A letter to the editor from Johnson appeared in today’s Washington Times, urging the court to protect an individual’s right to bear arms.

“This is an important issue for Montanans,” Johnson said. “Many of Montana’s elected officials spoke out on this issue; I am proud to be among them.”
The letter can be found at this link.

Johnson’s letter argued that Montana’s agreement with the United States to enter the union included Montana’s constitution at the time, which guaranteed the right of “any person” to bear arms. He urged the Supreme Court to uphold an individual rights interpretation of the Second Amendment, rather than a collective interpretation, as best in keeping with Montana’s Compact with the United States.

Many other elected officials around Montana have concurred in a statement of the same argument, in a bipartisan effort to defend Montanans’ individual right to keep and bear arms. The list of officials, as well as their resolution, can be found at: http://www.progunleaders.org.

I'd move there in a heartbeat.

IF Montana is smart, instead of doing something hotheaded like the folks in SC did LAST time, they will fight this in court. They clearly have the legal hand, as the South did in 1861....which is WHY no one was ever prosecuted for 'treason' after the War of Northern Aggression.

WOW! Now that is impressive. And given the fact that Montana is and always has been the focal point of "militia" this could be intresting. Me thinks I'll just hunker down with a nice bottle of Jack Single Barrel and wait for Quig or someone to bring the Deer summer sausage.

    Take care Be safe Poacher.

I don't get it - if they're so gung-ho about gun rights why didn't they seceed when the DC gun ban went into effect? This sounds like a threat to the SC which I doubt will have any effect.

Because this case is a FEDERAL interpretation of the second amendment not an unconstitutional law being passed in a single district. DC's gun ban wasn't any type of infringement on Montana's individual rights.

They will never allow a state to secede. People will be killed before that ever happens. The media will black out any truth, and most folks won't even know what is going on.

Do I hope it happens? Hell yes. We need a few states to secede and get this ball rolling. However -saying it....and doing it are two completely different things.

I have to agree with Brokor.... Applause for Montana, but I don't think it will never be allowed to happen.

I have a couple MNs we can use for border defense. Can't help wondering if the new Montana passports will have RFID chips in them.

I wonder if the AF would let me out if I wanted to join up? Would they take the risk of having a spy in their midst and force me to stay in, let me out knowing they might have to fight me later, or just lock me up without trial for the duration? I'm guessing the last option.
