i've seen 2m frequency's above the 146 thats not allowed here in Europe, here is 2 meters limited from 144-146 mhz.

 

I was considering getting my license again but not having a permanent address I'm not sure.
MY mail is received at my brother's house, but I don't live with him. I'm about 100 miles away.

 

They don't even mail your license anymore, you have to print it online. Since that started I have received nothing from them. Your brothers address would be fine.

 

Do any Monkeys even do HAM radio stuff any more? I've had a General license for about the last 13 -14 years or so but finally got an HF rig back in March. Just curious.

Seems as if interest has waned a bit since BT passed away.

 

I am on at least 4 times a week, and just about all day most Saturdays if I'm home. If I just have the radio on and doing something else I monitor 14.250. I/my group of friends use this for medium range and we are all getting into JS8CALL, VARA-C, and have long been users of Winlink for email over HF. Ham radio always has ups and downs, and right now we seem to be in a bit of a down on SSB, mainly due to the widespread usage of digital modes. On any given day most digital portions of a band are fairly busy.
One of my best moments was getting BT in my log, Alaska to South Carolina.

 

Yes, but I don't publish any of it here. I'm on HF at least a few times a week, I'm just one of them paranoid OPSEC nerds.

 

Still do HF, on nearly all bands. Awaiting some surgery, so haven't been posting as much as before.

Been talking to a bunch of locals who insist on simplex 2M and 70 CM for the very reason of avoiding infrastructure, even repeaters. (Most of them do HF also). With a decent roof mounted dual-band antenna I cover most of the town, which is spread out over about 20-30 miles or so. Certainly enough to keep informed on local effects of SHTF.

There's also a few locals, not many, who do 2M sideband (horizontally polarized). It's good for a couple hundred miles from what I understand. Looks like it might be worth exploring too.

One of the simplex guys made me a long wire antenna with a 49:1 transformer for getting started on HF. He had a Nano VNA for testing and setting up the SWR. I liked it so much I bought one. He's a big HF digital mode fan too. Another path to explore.

Using it, I adjusted the long wire to be resonant on 40 and 15, which I run barefoot on, and on 20 I ended up with about 2:1 across the band. So I use the internal tuner for that.

Like everything else, I expect it'll grow, with an external tuner and maybe a small linear later.

 

Yep... Mostly 40 meters SSB nets. 2 meter and 440 ares and ham club nets. Still work bike events at check points. Going to get into POTA with new rig once I get my land cleared for apple and blueberry plantings. Hmmm need to put Chicom radio on tractor
so wife can tell me when to come in from the field.... Yes we are both hams.

 

I have written down those frequencies and put them into my wallet ....for a manual record....but will also put them into the notes section of my cell phone....but mostly want a manual...not electronic record......I believe in a manual override...when I can.

Need also to post them at my HF base station.....as a back up...
