I feel heartbroken today because my favorite hen, Lavinia died of Marek's disease. I know she's just a chicken, but it feels so sad when we lose our friends. I'm thankful we had the time together that we did.
I'm going to dance it off then hopefully do a total body workout.

I did a shoulder and lower abs workout and 2 hours of dance practice plus a 5 mile walk. It seems like I've deviated from the 10 week plan... Since we are leaving in 20 days I'm probably going to do youtube workouts since they are accessible and less time consuming. I decided tonight that a workout well done is better than no workout.
I tend to get an all or nothing mentality and I'm worried that I'll lose progress when I'm traveling, but the whole point of traveling is to walk a lot and explore. I can do calisthenics and I guess I can take the dips anywhere I go... LOL.

Our team didn’t finish in the top 4 so we didn’t move on to the finals, boo. The scenario was tough and evidently I died. We’re already planning on sending a team next year (in Spokane) and then to the International Lineman’s Rodeo in Kansas in 2025.

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

87 pounds down and coming off an intentional 2 week weight hold to let things settle down in my body.

I signed up for a 5k in February with my daughter. I may finish like that last rhino in the stampede in Jumanji, but I'll trot it instead of walking.

    Anyone remember the Airborne shuffle?[winkthumb]

Oh, I am reading Homo Deus.

Yuval Noah Harari, author of the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestseller and international phenomenon Sapiens, returns with an equally original, compelling, and provocative book, turning his focus toward humanity’s future, and our quest to upgrade humans into gods.

Over the past century humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague, and war. This may seem hard to accept, but, as Harari explains in his trademark style—thorough, yet riveting—famine, plague and war have been transformed from incomprehensible and uncontrollable forces of nature into manageable challenges.

It's okay! It sounds like an ultra-competitive event and you have a lot to look forward to! This is another amazing pic!

@Zimmy Great job with your weightloss and ongoing progress! It's exciting that you're doing a 5K in February and I bet it will be a lot of fun to do it with your daughter! Those events are always so much fun and invigorating.
Homo Deus sounds like a really interesting read. Thank you for sharing! Hope you will have a wonderful week.

I've been getting over 10,000 steps daily! That's my win for the week. The weather is still too hot and walking is a lot easier and more convenient than biking.
I feel really good about my first week of the dance training that I'm working through. Pilates is such a great core workout.
    Last week I read:
    • "Household Saints" by Francine Prose Historical Fiction with a blend of Catholic guilt and old school superstitiousness. It happened by the grace of God that Joseph Santangelo won his wife in a card game.

On a September night so hot that the good Catholics of New York wonder if their city has slipped into hell, the butcher Joseph Santangelo invites his friends to play pinochle. At the end of a long, sweaty, boozy evening, his friend Lino Falconetti, addled by wine and heat, bets the hand of his daughter, Catherine—and Santangelo wins.
    • "Escape to Florence" by Kat Devereaux. This felt fairly light hearted for a Historical Fiction. Only fourteen, Stella Infuriati is the youngest member of her town’s resistance network during World War II. Risking torture and death, she relays messages, supplies, and weapons to partisan groups in the Tuscan hills. Her parents have no idea, consumed instead by love and fear for their beloved son, Achille, a courier and unofficial mechanic for a communist partisan brigade.

Then, after 1945, Stella seemingly vanishes from the records. Her name and story are overshadowed by the tragic death of her brother—until a young writer arrives in Tuscany in the spring of 2019, uncovering long-buried secrets.

Fleeing an emotionally abusive marriage and a lonely life on an isolated estate, Tori MacNair has come to Florence, the beautiful city her grandmother taught her to love, to build a new life. As she digs into her family history with the help of Marco, a handsome lawyer, Tori starts to uncover secrets of the past—truths that stretch back decades, to a young woman who risked everything to save her world . . .

Rest day was a success! I watered my gardens and got over 12,000 steps. I also danced for over 2 hours.

I’m back to class after an arm injury, it popped. My boy returned today too which was great. He was just announced as a coach for a wrestling club so I’m very proud of him.

Congrats to your boy! I bet he'll be a great coach especially if he has a work ethic like you.

Happy October Everyone! My soul felt tired by the end of September and I'm thankful for a new month. I'm spending as much time as I can outside in the gardens before life changes. I mowed and weeded and when the rain stops, I'll probably mulch the peppers and citrus trees.
There are two weeks before we leave so I'm going to face the dreaded task of going through everything and getting rid of the things that I don't need. Should I keep that dress that I've had since 2010 that I always called my lucky dress (I got it from Ross for like $7 and it served me so well through the years.) I'm not sure if I'm going to bring it with me. I think that I'll definitely keep it and store it. Do I keep the outfits that have sentimental value, but I'll probably not wear because they are pretty worn out? There's a lot to think about. My emergency stores are already well packed so I feel good about that.
Every month I choose a theme. This October is going to be "Optimistic October" for me. I kind of had the blues throughout September.
What are you looking forward to this month?

It's official! We bought more land in cash and the sale will be finalized tomorrow. This was my mission all summer and I'm so happy that this dream came true! It is a much higher elevation and the temperature there is consistently 20 degrees cooler than it is here.
I didn't lift weights this week, but I did a lot of pilates / deep core work, dancing, walking, and just started practicing yoga again before bed. I also started meditating.
I've made some big shifts overall and am really trying to soak in my daily experiences and take more pictures before the landscape changes. It's funny how things we see everyday can become like fixtures that we take for granted, but this week I've been seeing so much beauty and subtle variations. Fall in Hawaii is very subtle and not the dramatically colorful palette of my hometown in Washington state, but it is still my favorite season.

Today is rest day! With all that is going on in the world, we are having 2nd thoughts about traveling to Europe in a few weeks. I'm kind of leaning towards developing the new lot of land instead.
    Last week I read:
    • "Anne of the Island" by L.M. Montgomery This is the 3rd book in the Anne of Green Gables series and for some reason the fall and winter seasons are the time when I love to dig into series'. I always enjoy Montgomery's expressive and flowery language. This volume covers Anne's time at the University.
    I'm currently reading:
    • "The Amish Wife" by Gregg Olsen Fall is also a good season for true crime and this one is a true crime in an Amish Community. The #1 New York Times and Amazon Charts bestselling author Gregg Olsen solves a murder among the Amish and reveals the conspiracy to keep it a secret in a heartbreaking and horrifying true-crime story.
What are you currently reading or listening to?
Last night's yoga class was an hour long and my cat stayed on the mat with me the entire time. I wanted to quit a few times, but I'm glad that I stuck with it because I was able to hold my crow pose more easily than usual. I think the core work that I'm doing is starting to pay off!

We cancelled our trip. Worried about the Hezbollah stuff going on and wasn't looking forward to such a long flight. I think it was a good decision and now I feel ready to get ready for the week. I might tackle my handstand goal during the last 3 months of this year. It's been a long time since I've worked on that. What are your goals for the rest of the year? There's still plenty of time! I would still like to lose 30 lbs so I'm going to continue to work towards that.

I'm at 39 BMI and shooting for 25 as my final goal. I was at 54 BMI. I am confident I can make it.

I have no idea what that weight will be at my age.
