I help out on a local range and a guy brought out a new semi-auto version of the MP5. It is made in Turkey at an HK licensed plant. He had a brace on it, and he had us all shoot a few rounds and like all HK weapons it was flawless for all of us. They are around a grand, which is the lowest price for semi-auto MP5 type semi autos added MAC-5 Pistol, 9MM Current Issue of Firearms News Magazine| Subscribe Now - Firearms News
Not for me, too old and will never give up my 1911, but it is a beautiful design and well done. It is however seems to be a good choice if you wish more magazine capacity or use of accessories. Seems to be comparable to the AR pistol in price and function for what you get. Turks make some fine guns so that wouldn't bother me. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed your post. The video was good, discussed the weapon well and took the time to find out that the Turks had stuck to the design specs and the take down and use of original and after market parts and accessories was usable. Not a gun porn or off the wall display but very useful to someone interested in the weapon.
So, is this a direct replica/clone of the MP5? I always wanted one of these and thought long and hard about a HK SP5 (HK's civilian version of MP5) but I am of two minds - meaning - for that kind of money I could get a good SBR 5.56 so... If I did get one...I think I would want one in a bit larger caliber than 9mm, like .45 ACP or 10mm. With a brace, I think it would be excellent as a house gun improving accuracy, giving better magazine capacity and less penetration in close quarters than 5.56. Plus, it's something the wife could pick up immediately and use with better effect than a pistol in the same caliber but without a brace, nah...wouldn't even consider it. Speaking of which...are pistol braces legal again or is that still be legally decided? Thanks! The MAC 5 is definitely something to think about....
The dip shits have been stripped of power to regulate pistol braces as the supreme court got tired of the aft bullshit where they would say something is perfectly legal then a few years come out and say you're a felon for buying one when they said it was ok.
Nice! I had a couple of old MAC-11s that had belonged to my Father (you know, the kind that could be converted to full auto) but I sold them for a pretty penny years ago. Illegal to convert to full auto (if they ever found them) and besides they would be hard to control and eat too much ammo, but they had extra magazines, screw on extended barrel, improved bolt handles, vertical fore grip and wire shoulder stock. I know that some of those add-ons were not exactly legal, but what they don't know, they don't know!
Sounds like when the Beretta contract with Brazil ended and Taurus bought the factory and kept the employees. They produced "copies" of the Beretta 92 made with Beretta tooling by ex Beretta employees for a fraction of the "real" thing. Based on that very positive experience I'm considering one of these. The awesome thing about the MP5 design is how it just floats even on full auto. No barrel climb whatsoever and almost no recoil. It's so refined that you wind up comparing everything else to it. Pistol brace bans have been pretty much squashed by the courts, but the only reason for me to not SBR is to keep a folding stock firearm a pistol so I can carry concealed in a small pack using my CPL.
"Based on that very positive experience I'm considering one of these." A bit unclear, are you talking about getting a MAC-5 or a Beretta 92? Yeah, I also think a MAC 5 would be handy as hell, small, light, very low recoil, large magazine... I'm sure the wife would like it, especially in 9mm, for a house gun. Of course, I would like it too! The ONLY question I have is if the MAC-5 is the best possible clone/replica of the MP-5 available? What do you think? EDIT: Also, wondering how this, the MAC-5, compares to the AP-5? Anyone have any knowledge or comments?
Based on my experience with Taurus building a Beretta 92 using a former Beretta factory, tooling, and employees IMO MAC doing the same thing with the MAC-5 should give excellent results. I'd buy this over any MP 5 clone for that reason alone. I'd probably buy the MAC-5 over the genuine civvy MP5 due to cost considerations as I'm not looking for a brand name ownership pride or resale vale.
I'm ordering a Pair of these just as soon as my LGS can get them shipped, the reviews are off the charts, Wish they did other pistol calibers, but for now, 9mm will have to do! I also ordered a crate of mags, given how rare and spendy the HK stuff is, I figured I better max out on mags while the prices and availability are still reasonable! Now for a pallet of 9 mm 124 gr NATO to feed these! WIfe will be super pleased, and I know I will too! Already ordered the rear caps for the Factory HK type collapsing stocks and setting up for a couple cans! Lastly, I also secured a couple mounts so we can add reflex sights once we actually have the pistols in hand! This will make aa nifty addition to my HK Mod-33/53 Carbine, should be pretty slick all the way around!
Yeah, I had a squint at the price of a HK SP-5 and HOLY CRAP!! Yeah, I'm not crazy about it being a 9mm but at least I got lots of 9mm so... but you're ordering a pallet?!?! An actual pallet?!? Damn! Did you get HK mags or MAC mags or what brand? You know, I think I really want one of these...
HA! Mags are the new MAC mags that are supplied with the pistols, just bought 30 of them, and may buy a few more later, and the ammo, a couple cases worth, about 3000 rounds total! Not a YUGE 9 mm fan, certainly not married to that caliber, but I do have enough pistols to justify running with it, and besides, with things as they are these days, figured I should probably stock up while I still can!
I think one of these may be in my near future as well. I had an MP5K available to me years ago and loved that puppy, just a damn fine piece of craftsmanship that always ran.
Well, I must admit, I feel much better about spending money since the election went in out favor so...
Just reading the experiences of a new buyer of one of these over on the Fal Files. Unimpressive simple size of 1 but the pics and issues are not flattering.
