Thomas is currently 74 years old and Alito is 72. At the end of Trump's term, they will be 78 and 76. I sure think it would be smart for Thomas and Alito to retire in the next 12 months to get replacements in before the mid-terms!!!! The Left will be forever scorched that they instituted and initiated the "Nuclear Option". Thomas and Alito for sure... and maybe we get lucky with a Trump's successor being Vance, Gabbard, etc.. and get Sotomayer and even Roberts replaced....
I agree and I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen; however, I am constantly amazed how people want to hold onto power even when they are almost at the end of the road.
@Steverino I'm not fully trusting Gabbard yet and want to see how she does in the cabinet. Yeah, I know she was/is an LTC in the reserves (or was it Guard?) and she jumped off the Democratic ship and been highly critical of the Leftists but...I want to see how she performs in the thick of things before I consider her for advancement. I want to see actions not just words, same for Vance. Hell, the same for all of the professional politicians under Trump. Trump has been the ONLY elected official in my lifetime that has done what he said he would do, what I voted for him to do, and he isn't a politician so... So, I have high hopes, especially since Trump will hold them to account, to performance, or he'll dump them, but we'll see. I don't trust none of these SOBs anymore...and if they kill Trump, it will be back to the same old crap we've had for 50+ years which is why I am so afraid and pray constantly for him because this is it, we have one last chance, everything is staged perfectly for a huge change in this country but it will not happen without him, of that I am certain. EDIT: Also, if they do assassinate Trump, and I believe they will try again, this time professionally, I foresee the people of this country will finally give up and will not support elections anymore and for good reason(s).
We have several 2nd cases lined up for SCOTUS this term, and several more that need to be adjudicated and then sent up to SCOTUS for a ruling in 2025/26, I really hope to have Thomas and Alito to issue powerful opinions that destroy all gun control, only then can we think about those two retiring and giving Trump the chance to pick replacements! There is a pretty strong push for TWO well known Justices at the lower courts who would be POWERFUL replacements, Justice Roger Benetias out of southern California, and that senior justice out of the 5th circuit court ( Sorry, cannot remember his name) both would be amazing picks to the bench, both are unassailable in their records and bullet proof, and BOTH would hold Roberts feet to the fire! Roberts really needs to go, but we need Trump or Vance to name his replacement, and there are a couple picks for that as well! As to the three ( Actually 4) Leftie justices, I think time will not be an ally to them, the next twelve years are going to be brutal, and they really need replaced! Kegan, Sotomayer, Brown-Jackson, and Roberts! Also, if congress does step in it and tries to add justices, then we need to impeach the 4 listed above and remove them, then use the fillibuster to block additional dem. picks from congress, and stick to ONLY allowing the POTUS to pick, and then, NO congressional review, once POTUS picks, their in! No more getting Brett Kavignagh'ed!
I wouldn't think Thomas or Alito would leave during Trump's first year of office, but if they do, I would assume they would give Trump the heads-up about their retirement plans. Thomas is 76 now and it surely can't be much longer. I'm not sure how Trump or Vance could replace Roberts as the guy is 69 so I don't see him going anywhere for the next four years - maybe - but doubtful. However, I agree, he needs to go. I believe Brown-Jackson is totally and completely a political plant. The Republicans should have fought harder to keep her out but 99% of them have weak knees and would rather kneel than fight so... Frankly, I do not like the idea of these Judges being allowed to stay indefinitely. I think there should be an age restriction. Hell, I think Congress should have an age restriction too! But, since I am wishful thinking, I might as well wish for the $1.2 billion Mega Million jackpot too as it will get me the same result. LOL!!!
Our system is so broken it's sad to think the Supreme Court being the final bastion to defend freedom, but over the last 4 years this was the case. We are only here right now and not fighting in the streets because the Supreme Court shut down the Covid coup. I feel confident the Trump team is aware of the situation. Whether or not anything is accomplished is another matter.
