I'll just say - bad idea. The Letters of Marque only work if the folks issuing same have secure borders and are big enough nobody will even attempt retaliation. In the days of sailing ships, OK stuff. In the days of drones that can be carrying a kilo of Fentanyl to spay from the air over a large crowd....not such a good idea. You could not pay me enough to attend a Superbowl.

Bad Idea all around! Basically, the cartels are taunting the U.S. into doing something that could then escalate tensions, make the U.S. look bad to the rest of the world, not a good look! Sending mercenaries is the worst thing we could do, you step one pinky toe across that border, Mexico absolutely will react with violence, treating it as an act of war, no, not a good idea at all. What we should do is force Mexico to participate in "Joint Actions" against the Cartels, hold Mexico responsible/accountable, and then Mexico cannot claim anything against the U.S! So, if we are really as smart as we all hope we are, send our special operations people south into Mexico, treat them like Afganies/Iraquies that you don't really trust for Blue on Blue/Green type actions, and again hold Mexico feet to the fire to police it's own! Remember, the Cartels have corrupted pretty much everything in Mexico, there is literally No One we can trust, from the El'Preaedente on down to the local constable, and everyone in between, even the local dog catchers are likely corrupted, same with their citizens, so, treat them exactly how we did in the middle east! No matter how you slice it, this is going to be a serious fight, so we need to be committed to it long term, and we need to accept that we are going to loose American troops in this fight, but we do this right, it's a righteous fight worth fighting till the end! We also need Canada to play ball in this, same reasons, same results, the real fight is dealing with that fuck head Trudeau for now, he ain't going to back down unless someone grabs him by his little dink and gives it a hard twist, sooner or later, he will absolutely be forced to play ball, the trick is getting him to see it our way as soon as possible!
Going forward, now that the border wall is nearly complete, we need to shore it up further, Berlin Wall 2.0 level of security, a 300 yard no-man's-land, complete with guard towers with shoot to kill orders, lots of sensors to detect tunneling, and top shelf anti drone weapons! Doing this, we need to FORCE Mexico to build, man, and defend it, and they absolutely need to pay for it, doesn't matter how much they may bitch and moan, make them do it, and pay for it, and hold their feet to the fire on it! We also need to FORCE them to set up inspection stations in their side of the border, stopping ALL vehicles for inspection, all persons for potential crossings, and turn back those who don't belong, and enforce the anti drug and other illegal trafficking! Once those vehicles reach the Port entry, they get inspected again, to make sure Mexico is doing its fuckin job! No need for National guard once this is all set up, we have plenty of Border agents to secure things once the border is secured and Mexico is playing it's part and fully supporting it!

Better to block the Bab-el-Mandeb straits at Yemen. Start choking out oil and trade to China and the pre-requisite ingredients for fentanyl and other problems will end with it. Chinese troops might even secure the Mexican side of the border as bankruptcy hits the Cartels from lack of customers AND lack of supply on drugs and children for American elites to do things to and make disappear. Just pass a law to let law abiding US citizens the right to just take out the dealers , pushers , criminals, etc . When the law shows up to investigate,, once the crime is corroborated by proof and witnesses ,,, case closed . It might be a little messy for a while,, but it'll start to clear up .

Indemnity for private contractors to hunt down cartels would be great. Another thing that would be great is to just invade Mexico and take it over. Far easier to defend its natural borders. Also we would gain some great vacation hubs.
the US refused to take over that nation in the past... things that were there made them say NOPE NO WAY... IMHO that would open a BIG can of worms!!! If you know much or understand much about there you would probably agree... heard it said in Mexico the judges expect the defendants to lie???
Trouble? Like tens of millions of rapists and murderers walking through the border to live amongst our children type of trouble? Nah, fuq dat. We can move in, take over the whole damn country in 3 days and still have time to do a press conference. The only people with guns are the cartels, and they wouldn't last long. Their .Gov paid henchmen would be taken out in the first day. Don't get me wrong, the U.S. would never invade Mexico, but that's precisely why I say we should do it. If there is resistance, just back off to the border areas to the South, set up a major FOB, institute checkpoints, run missions, no sweat. We controlled multiple Middle East corridors with little issue, we can certainly do the same with a third world mostly disarmed country which doesn't have soldiers sent by Iran to muddy up the waters. And we would maintain a couple bases in Mexico...no big deal at all. Essentially, we would create a huge buffer zone using the whole of Mexico as the buffer. We can control the land to the South, which is much, much easier than trying to maintain a border with Mexico across multiple States to the North. But, like I said before...this will never happen.
