Solid State Drives (SSD) are great they boot very fast versus a mechanical drives, so I bit on a sale for an off brand SSD from KingSpec with a free Team Group USB Drive (thumb drive). Both failed within a year. I was using the SSD for extra portable storage via a USB case, so I did not lose anything.....I backup and backup and backup. The KingSpec drive had a 2-year warranty, so I pursued a warranty claim... They wanted me to send if back to China, and they would look at and try and "fix" it The thumb drive was free so I threw it away. I have used Samsung SSDs made in Korea and PNY SSDs made in Taiwan with no failures, no more Chinese drives.
@flex Thanks! This is good info. I normally wouldn't purchase a Chinese SSD but if I wanted to update an old laptop which got minimal use... On my computer, I have been using a pair of Samsung 500GB 850 EVO since 2017 without any issues and a few months ago, I added a 2TB 870 EVO. All are running perfectly (knock on wood).
I didn't know they were Chinese until after, still odd that most of the mechanical drives are made in Thailand.
