Well, I got fooled again... I had high hopes (stupid me) that using common sense, suppressors would finally, FINALLY be removed from the NFA list of controlled items. Sadly, this will not happen unless a major change is made which is doubtful. Instead, they threw us a bone and will not charge us the $200 but they still must be registered. It is heading for a vote soon, maybe this week, if I understand correctly...
I would like the whole enchilada, including the elimination of the NFA registration. However, I’m happy to see an incremental rollback. I’m pretty sure I’m already on the naughty list. Dropping the tax to 0 FRNs from 200 FRNs implies that the next administration could change it to 400. As long as they work toward full elimination, I’m all for it.
Oh, I agree, but sadly that will never happen. Never. I just wrote a nasty but polite letter to my Senator. Senator Crapo was the guy who put forward the Bill with the intent to actually get suppressors off the list but...not even common sense can reverse the US government. I told him that he needs to retire as he can't even get a vote for common sense after 26-years. He needs to go. Once again, Congress shows that they cannot change, not really. They can never reverse themselves even when they are completely wrong. The President can sign a million Executive Orders but unless Congress makes these 'common sense' orders permanent then they are simply a temporary fix, a band-aid or perhaps a torniquet to stop the bleeding but Congress must stitch the wound, and they just can't or won't. Why? Donors and power. One step forward, two steps back...
It looks like silencer shop may have had a hand in keeping the original version of the hearing protection act from being voted on...
What about manufacturing your own cans? Several of these 'Fuel filters" being sold come complete with everything you need except a center hole of selected caliber, easily produced with a lathe or even a drill. Should be able to make up a serial number, submit the proper form and there you go.

I never understood what all the hullabaloo was about in the first place other than people having no clue what a can is. I suppose they think they turn any firearm into a silent killer that nobody will ever hear a shot fired....gesh these people are a special kinda silly if you ask me. I am curious about if they drop the $200 fee but you still have to register them is it a form you can fill out when you purchase them or do you have to send off for the approval and then get to pick up the can? I am admittedly ignorant of the entire process because I have never had the need for a can.
Word out there that the silencer shop worked to keep suppressors on the NFA, glad I never dealt with them. Breaking: Hearing Protection Act & SHORT Act Pulled By Republicans!
Removing suppressors from the NFA list would greatly improve the Silencer Shop's sales so I don't understand them being against this, makes no sense to me. So, I suspect there is something I don't know... I didn't really think the SBRs would be taken off the list but did have high hopes that some common sense about suppressors would come of this. Anyway, we'll see but I doubt we'll see any real changes...and sooner or later I will be forced to join their list if I want either a SBR or suppressor.
