I stopped at a stop sign on the way home last night and my headlights fell on one of these young "men," peddling a beat up old bicycle that was towing what looked like a kids wagon. I might've paused for just a moment to look at his shabby rig as he rounded the corner in front of me. Forty-five years ago I was a homeless kid on a bicycle. I had sense enough to find my bed for the night before it was full dark.

I'd just started to turn, and the windshield pillar of my car partially blocked my view as he quickly waved with his right hand. At least I hoped it was a wave. If I had seen that he hadn't used all of his fingers to wave at me I may have lost my grip on the wheel waving back. Late at night on a dark country road. He would've felt like he was in the deleted bicycle scene from Deliverance. "Pedal faster, I hear banjos!"
